Frankie was bit again at daycare...this makes three times in one month!!!
I am fuming...they now have an aid in the room to shadow the biter...what if this doesn't work? Do i have an recourse? The culprit left teeth marks again in Frankie's wrist...

I'm sorry. That's my fear with DS. He's in the infant room now so I really don't have that worry yet (since his classmates don't have teeth). Hopefully this aid will help.

I hope having the aide shadowing him curbs his behavior...or at least helps to

DS was bit 2x at dc also. They shadowed the biter and he stopped biting DS at least. Not sure about the other kids. Hope our kids aren't in the same class!
DH wanted to confront the parents - he wanted to bite the biter back!

OMG James! I'm so sorry. Besides the aide to shadow the biter, what other steps has the staff taken to help? Have they spoken to the parents? Is it possible to move the biter to another room or make the parents keep him/her home until they are able to correct the behavior?

Re: Frankie was bit again at daycare...this makes three times in one month!!!
Andrew was bitten 5 times by one child at his old day care. Their rule was after 3 bites, the child is asked to take a leave from the center. This particular girl left for not quite a week and on her first day back she bit Andrew again. This time they called the parents to come and pick her up and come up with a plan of action with them and the biter. Before the parents came, she bit Andrew again!
This little girl wasn't allowed back at the center. Extreme, maybe, but on the 'bitee' end of things, I was relieved.

Re: Frankie was bit again at daycare...this makes three times in one month!!!
As a parent of a 14 month old who is a biter, what would you want them to do? I am just curious to see if I am ever going to get the call that he is getting kicked out of daycare. DS bites me (and only me right now thankfully but I am sure this will change) I give him time outs and I tell him it hurts but he bites more when I pay attention to it. Also, it happens more when he is teething and while we replace the behavior all the time (teething rings cold bananas etc) I think it alleviates him to bite. ALSO he bites sometimes out of love when he is giving a kiss and kinda goes all over people. He also does not have communication yet so sometimes he bites when he is frustrated. There is a book called "no biting" that you can get from the national association for the education of young children (naeyc) Maybe u can suggest that to the school.

Yes, I believe they do.
AJ has received the stern "NO" and look for touching electrical cords, walking into the bathrooms and touching our TV stand which is certainly her height.
She has learned not to do these things. Our 'lesson' as we call them started at 11mo and she was very easy to 'train' not to do certain things.
So I'd say yes, this boy can be taught not to bite. Right now he's getting attention and doesnt seem to understand its a bad thing. Your child screaming probably is a new an interesting sound to him. My kiddo actually laughs when I have a coughing fit. AJ thought it was cute when we yelled no at her if she entered into our bathroom, then I'd force her away and out and sit her down. She got frustrated and angry. She'd keep trying and I'd keep corrected and in less than a week she just learned not to bother with that trick cause it wasnt fun anymore.
ETA: AJ is 14mo right now, not really. Less than 5words

Yes, I do think they understand. We had issues with Benjamin hitting me at about 15 or 16 months old. With consistancy, he finally understood it's wrong to do it. Has he hit again? Of course but he does understand it's wrong and stops when we correct him.
What I meant was are the parents aware of what he's doing and is their attitude one that would show they want to fix it or are they acting like it's just a phase that he'll outgrow?

My thoughts exactly!
You cannot resonne with a child than young except they need to keep shadowing him to teach him not to do it.
How is a parent who is working all day going to teach their young child? I think the daycare needs to shadow the child while teaching him how to behave appropriately.
