Really!! I'm all for recall's but a recall because you don't remove the removable pad and clean it, so there is mold. i mean isn't that common sense.

I was thinking the same thing - and honestly - I got a little nervous when I saw the picture and the recall.

Maybe parents who don't change diapers and never clean their baby's stuff should be recalled.Chat Icon

While I can see why this would be the assumption, I feel the need to post because all of these comments are implying that this would only happen to a family that doesn't clean.

NOT true.

It happened to me. I didn't report it to Fischer Price because I figured it was a freak occurrence. My baby slept in the RNP and, of course, I washed the outer cover, but not daily. One day I took it off and went to wash it and noticed small black spots on the bottom curve of the piece of fabric that covers the plastic shell. NOT on the washable cover. You cannot remove the piece of fabric where the mold was. I was so upset.

My baby must have leaked through her diaper one night and we didn't know. The moisture was trapped between the plastic, the liner and the cover. Mold grows quickly in a cool, wet, dark environment. Accidents happen.

Yes, by way of design- there is a thin fabric below the cover that is on top of the plastic so rather than having the (washable) cover just dry out, moisture gets trapped between the plastic and this other thin layer of fabric. This layer cannot be removed for cleaning unless you cut it out.

yeah this was the impression I got. When I used it for DD the only way I was able to clean it was to bring it in the shower and scrub it which I did often, there was nothing that was removable (this is one that was bought in 2010, maybe they changed it since them?) I have to check mine for mold for DC #2.

It happened to us too and we are VERY clean I actually have an issue where I get anxiety when things are perfectly clean. I don't know if we were more suceptible because we lived on the water so there was more moisture in the air or because he was a sweaty sleeper but he never peed through his diaper, he would pee once and need it changed he hated being wet. We washed it very often as did my sister. She called me up one night when she took hers off to wash the cover and found the mold in between the two layers and had to toss it because you can't wash that bottom layer. I took mine off even though I washed it not too long before and sure enough, mold.

Ok, I take it back Chat Icon

I used it, & loved it. I actually bought it because DD2 was constantly spitting up. So, I'm guessing mine wasn't on often enough & constantly being washed Chat Icon

I didn't respond here, but responded on the pregnancy board.

Mold grows when it is wet and not properly cared for. The recall states that "Mold can develop between the removable seat cushion and the hard plastic frame of the sleeper when it remains wet/moist or is infrequently cleaned." So, if you leave it wet or don't clean it, it may grow mold. Did you look at all the info on the recall - there is no bringing it back or replacing it - the instructions are to CLEAN it. This doesn't imply that you are dirty, just that it wasn't properly cared for.

After reading the thread and others responses explaining what happened, you are absolutely right. I'm sorry for my comment. The article should be more specific for what parents should be looking for and where. Luckily mine is OK but I will be checking it more frequently. I hope your LO is ok.

I hope you read mine too....I did apologize. I don't remember mine having an area that couldn't be removed. When I first read it & FP seemed to imply it needs to be properly clean, that led me to believe people weren't removing it. Which, sadly wouldn't surprise me. I've seen nasty highchairs too, so I thought it was like that. KWIM?

Re: FP recalls rock n play sleeper

Ok can I just say -and I don't really care if this makes me sound like I'm dirty, because I'm a clean freak- I have had mine for 4 months now and haven't even thought of washing it Chat Icon I'm always cleaning and washing my kids stuff, but haven't done so with the RNP only because I always use a receiving blanket in it , I never put my DS in it without putting the blanket down first , so it's spotless. When I heard about the recall I took it apart, thank god itl's fine, but now I will be washing it a lot. My DS won't be using it that much longer since he is huge, I love this thing!
