Found an injured bird! What do I do?
I was just out walking my dog and saw a little bird on the side of the street. It was obviously injured, just sitting there looking petrified . No one else was around. I came home and googles places to call, but no one is answering now - it's too late in the day. I think it was pretty badly injured - it's poor little body looked kind of mangled. Is there anything I can do?
I went back down the street to check and see how it was doing before I called any of the numbers posted and it was gone. Don't know what happened but I hope it's ok.
Thanks for posting places to call

Did you contact local vets, or Long Island Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation?

There's also Save the Animals Rescue and the Wild Bird Fund. If you Google Long Island Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, a bunch of places come up. The Wild Bird Fund is in NYC but open until 8. At the least, maybe they can provide suggestions.

I had this happen once. Keep it warm. Mash up some dog food and water together. Feed it with an eye dropper. Locate bird rescues.

Found an injured bird! What do I do?
are you sure its hurt and not just a fledging?
if its a pigeon or dove volunteers for wildlife will not help nor will most local vets
I have the name of a wildlife rehab in Massapequa, FM if you want his number
if you bring him/her in keep warm, give him water and offered him/her bird good. If its not a fledgling or even if it is he can eat bird seed
also, Dr. Hoeffer in Huntington is a bird vet, not sure she will help but worth a try
Dr Monaco in Planivew is also a bird vet, he is off Old country rd.
