Formula feeding/supplementing mom - which brand do u use?

I'm bombarded by ads and marketing brochures from enfamil, similar and gerber. Which formula do u use and why? Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

enfamil because it was what my ped recommended. i use gentlease.

We are supplementing w enfamil. Honestly, it was a random choice of the 3 samples I had in the cabinet. Ped said to supplement 2x a day since my nipples were falling off from DS's jaws-grip! But powder was giving him tummy trouble so we just bought the ready-made stuff, as recommended by my SIL. We'll see how that goes.

I have both emfamil and similac. Started with similac in the hospital so we are using up that first. My ped said we can use whatever and he said switching back and forth is not a problem.

with dc #1 I used Enfamil and with #2 I will probably do the same

LIJ used Similac so that's what we used. Our ped recommended it as well.

From a ped. dietitian:

ENFAMIL

Here is why...Enfamil is the closest to BM with their whey to casein ratio. Only brand to add the additional vit. D to meet the AAP recommendations. Has DHA levels in the recommended ranges for brain and central nervous system development. And, lastly..I love gent lease.. Best product out there. Oh..and is the only brand with 2 prebiotics to help foster the growth of the probiotics in the gut.

Gerber - a good close second. THey do not have a full product line so if baby has a milk protein allergy you will have to switch brands. 100% whey - so not like BM, but easy to digest. Has proper DHA levels and pre/pro biopics in their formulas.

Similac- No offense..but I would use any brand except Similac, not that your baby won't grow, but I am not a fan of their product. Mostly casein - which is the harder to digest protein, so I find most babies have to switch from their advance product. ONLY brand manufactured that does not contain the recommend DHA levels, have less than half of recommendation, yet they manufacture kirkland brand and put proper levels?? 2nd ingredient on most of their products contain sucrose - 11 tsp of pure sugar per day, they do have a prebiotic in their product and a full product line.

So that is my opinion...FWIW

DD I used Similiac.
DS I use Enfamil.
#3 is due in May and I am going to assume the hospital will start with Enfamil again. I will continue to use what they start the baby on.
Once you bring the baby to your ped you can speak to them at that point and see what they think.

With DD I used Similac for the first 2 months b/c that was what the hospital used. Then we switched to Nestle Good start ready to feed. But I just looked it up and they've changed it to Gerber Good start.

with DD we used enfamil because that is what the hospital gave us (we did a combination of breastfeeding and a night time bottle of formula)
we switched to enfamil gentlease because of DD's spitting up issues
I plan on using the same with baby #2

similac advance. thats what they used in the NICU.i tried switching once to enfamil gentlease for gas issues but it made things worse so i just went back to similac and she grew out of the gas issues.

you should start with one that is a routine product - designed closer to composition of BM.
So:
Enfamil Newborn
Gerber Good Start
Similac Advacne

If supplementing from BF the same as above (although I go away from recommendations and go with gentlease)

IF problems arise: Gas (which is very common 4w-14w) and parents want a change I go with Gentlease (Gerber Gentle is equivalent, Similac does not have an equivalent)

Lactose intolerance:
Prosobee (Enfamil)
Similac Sensative (Similac)

Spit Up:
Enfamil AR
Similac RS (This is also lactose free)

Cow Milk Allergy or Colic
Nutramigen (Enfamil)
Allimentum (Similac)

I supplemented when I went back to work and used Enfamil. Luckily DD tolerated it well and I never needed to try another formula.

We used earths best with my daughter and plan to usee it with #2.
