Need to start supplementing with Target Brand Formula now and have a question
I posted the other day that i would have to start supplementing with the twins go to daycare in March because i wont be able to keep up as they take more food. Well, i spoke too soon. I can't keep up anymore. I'll still be giving the breast milk but i need to start supplementing. My question is, which of the formulas do i go with? I looked on targets website and they have a few different kinds. I thought maybe the DHA milk based formula? but DH and I were both lactose intolerant as babies, should i go with Lactose sensitive infant just to play it safe? Also, when i am starting to supplement, do i do 1 bottle breast milk, the next bottle formula? Sorry for all the questions, but i am totally clueless. TIA!!!

My DS never latched so I have been exclusively pumping and supplementing with formula since he was about 4 or 5 weeks old (he's now almost 11 weeks old). We had tons of free samples of formula from the hospital so we started him on Similac Advance then moved on to Enfamil. He is now on a mix of Enfamil (the one with the yellow label, not the newborn formula) and Enfamil Gentle Ease. I mix breast milk and the formula mix in every bottle so he gets both at every feeding. I do know moms who alternate all breast milk, all formula but I think mixing it all together helps them get used to digesting the formula.
DH and I were both lactose intolerant as babies too, and DH was actually lactose intolerant throughout his entire childhood and into early adulthood as well. But so far DS isn't showing any signs of lactose issues from the formula. I've heard the Target brand equivalent to Enfamil Gentle Ease is essentially the same thing. Maybe talk to your ped too for suggestions? Good luck!

Just an FYI
The target brand Gentle is not the same as gentlease - it is actually similar to Similacs sensative (the proteins are partially broken down in enfamil, and has reduced lactose) Sim is intact protein and no lactose. No generic matches gentlease b/c they do not partially hydrolyze all their proteins - you will see this if you look at the ingredients.
You can also mix BM with formula, but is advised not to b/c you may waste BM - instead suggestion is to feed BM first, then formula after. I personally mixed it b/c it was just easier and I didn't care if I wasted any.

Great job BF!!
ITA. DD gets about 70%/30% BM formula... I do not put BM and formula in the same bottle because once their spit hits formula, it's done in an hour, you have to toss it. BM is more resilient once spit hits it and can last longer, so if I'm going to give both in a feeding I do it in separate bottles so as to not waste the BM.

Back when ...(haha what a year ago?) I used Walmart "Parent's Choice" brand of gentlease and you took that can and a Enfamil Gentlease can and compared .. they were identical.

Yep this.
Scary how it was word for word the same.
And SOOOOO much cheaper.
Too bad DD had to go to an AR- but the target AR rocks so we are good...
Still more money though...

Thanks Ladies! DH is going to the store tonight and buying the up & up formula. We're going to try a bottle with 1/2 breast milk and a bottle with half formula and see how they do!

Yup, this is how I do it. I would ask your ped, but I started my twins off w/the regular Enfamil (Target has a comparable one) and then saw the lactose issues creep up. I had issues with it when I was a baby too. So, I asked my ped and we tried Gentlease (there is a Target one of those...purple). DD did great, but DS needed to move to soy (Target green).

not the same...look under hydrolyzed proteins - you will see they only hydrolyze the when and not the non fat milk proteins. Not a big deal for some, but for the babies that really need the partially hydrolyzed proteins, they may not do as well.
Also, the vitmain are not the same...if you look after the vitamin name it is different. Generics use a lower quality grade of vitamins. Not that it is bad, but one reason why I don't recommend generics until 6mths. (if you put a centrum and cvs vitamin in water the cvs brand does not break down as fully as the centrum - same idea) has to do with absorption.
