What was your solution for success?
Once my polyp is removed end of this month, I will start Letrozole and Ovidrel. Has anyone had success w just the meds? Does the ovidrel guarantee ovulation?
Can a women have polycystic Ovaries and NOT have PCOS?

Hsg and bloodwork are all normal so I'm excited to get that darn polyp removed and start my meds.

Thanks ladies!!!

Re: for those with polycystic ovaries.....

The only thing that worked for me was surgery: Ovarian drilling. Even after the baby I actually ovulate and get periods on my own. This is an end of the line kind of thing though, not an initial step. I did respond to meds but with very poor quality eggs. The drilling greatly improved the quality. Best of luck to you. You will hear many more "typical" success stories but thought I would share mine.

So ovarian drilling was the solution for you but mostly for.the quality of eggs?

For the quality and for the fact that I started ovulating (and still do) on my own. It destroys the thick tissue overlaying the ovary and helps regulate the imbalance of hormones that inhibits ovulation. For me, those hormones made the egg quality bad, esp. when you started adding the drugs on top of that.

Re: for those with polycystic ovaries.....

I have PCOS but my DH also had sperm quality issues so we wound up doing IVF / ICSI. But, what helped me with my egg quality was Metformin. I did a cycle without it and had major fragmentation, next cycle was on it for 3 months prior, and that's the cycle my egg quality improved and I got pregnant with my DS and now again with twins from an FET (embryos from the 2009 cycle).

I've never heard of having polycystic ovaries and not having PCOS, but not sure if its possible.
I did not ovulate on my own. My RE started me on Clomid and we did just Clomid, but with varying doses for 5 months. the last two months, we also added the Ovidrel and on the last month is when we conceived our LO.
Hope you have a success story soon as well!

Re: for those with polycystic ovaries.....

Letrezol was not enough for me. I took 5mg, then bumped it up to 10mg.. but I produced nothing. Ultimately, I moved on to injectables (gonal-f) and that plus the HCG trigger brought me a bfp on my 3rd and 6th IUI cycles.

My first pregnancy ended at 17wks ... and the other IUI pregnancy ended with a chemical - though, both losses were completely unrelated to the drugs and the IUI itself.

Good luck!

Did they have you use ovidrel or was what you mentioned something different? Is there a reason why the letrozole didn't work? Or is it just that everyone's different?

I used ovidrel. Everyone reacts differently to every drug, that's why no two people are on the exact same protocol. You may respond just FINE to it .. There's no way to know until you try it.

I've never been diagnosed with PCOS but I do have polycystic like ovaries. I'm currently on letrozole, gonal-f since i am a slow responder and ovidrel but we also have mf too.

I have polycystic ovaries with normal bloodwork like you. I did not ovulate on my own. I did one clomid, ovidrel IUI cycle and got pregnant with my DS. Good luck!

Just what I was thinking. I was never told "PCOS" by the RE. Just the poly Ovaries. I do get my period and cycles were as long as 30- 40 days, but always got a period.

There are so symptoms of PCOS that you may have all or none but if you have cysts on your ovaries then you have PCOS...the ovidrel will make you ovulate and I preferred to be triggered so that the IUI could be timed properly

Gonal-F, HCG trigger and IUI got me pregnant 3 times.
One resulted in my DS, one ended in MC and I'm currently pregnant with twins!

for me, I never had polycycstic ovaries but do have all of the symptoms of PCOS. We tried 2 rounds of clomid that never produced anything higher than a 14.5mm follicle. Next round we will be doing injectables.
