For those of you who had a gassy baby...
What finally worked to help? My poor guy was up at 5am screaming with gas pains. Nothing I could do would help him  I've changed his formula to Similac Sensitive, I put Mylicon in the bottle to take the bubbles out, burp him frequently. Any other suggestions? I might run out and buy some Dr. Brown's bottles. I just feel so bad for him, I can literally HEAR the gas in hs belly

Yup, tried all that and nothing seemed to help. He is better now that he pooped this morning, but he's not constipated or anything so I know its just the gas.

I used to give my DD fennel tea and used the Dr brown bottles, the tea seemed to help but the bottles where a big difference.

What kind of bottles are you using?
Buy Gripe Water by Little Tummies... has the fennel water along with other things that truly helped my DD.
Also, Mylicon worked for Kristina, but not nearly as well as the Baby Gas X. Try other ones - it's not necessarily the case that one of the OTC meds is going to work for your child.
Another thing - and I did this with my DD - I shot the gas med directly into her mouth before her bottle. It seemed to me that it would be more beneficial if she got the full dose before she ate.
Also, are you formula feeding or giving BM? If form feeding, are you premixing his form, or making it on the spot b/c that will contribute to the gassiness factor. If giving BM, then your eating will also contribute to it.

Dr. Browns bottles, use Gripe Water instead of the Mylicon...it def helped out DD much better than the mylicon and its all natural.

When I premix, he is a lot less gassy and when I use the RTF he is a lot less gassy too. Just be careful with the RTF. The last bottle that you get out of it has a lot of bubbles. I usually pour all my bottles in the morning so it can sit!

IMO I think the Playtex Drop Ins really help to reduce gas. Katelyn rarely gets gassy and anyone that I have known to use these bottles has said the same thing so I am surprised your baby is so gassy with these bottles
eta - do you push the air out of the bottles?
When she is gassy I hold her on her belly. Her belly and head rest on my arm. (Does that make sense I am not sure its a good description) My aunt taught me this , my cousin was colicky and it really does work.

OK so I'll definately start with premixing before going to the RTF. How much do you make in advance?

So Kristina had gas when she was a baby, and her ped told me that a big problem was that I was mixing on the spot. He said that's a no-no for gassy babies b/c the until the formula has time to settle - will hold excess air bubbles in it which transfer to your DC when they eat. Big mess!
I would just buy one of these at BRU:
Especially for Baby Formula Pitcher $5.48
I have been using this since Kristina was a NB, and it's great! A lot of moms here use it also. It's a wonderful item b/c you make either 8, 16, 24, or 32 oz of formula, and then IT HAS TIME TO SETTLE! When you are ready, you pour it out, and warm. Good as gold!
I totally empathize with you b/c I dealt with it w/Kristina, but after I amended things, and found what worked for her, she was a completely and TOTALLY different HAPPY baby!!!!!!

Other than what's been mentioned, feeding them in an upright position as much as possible.
We bought the podee which also helped because she could be held sitting up & eat.

I remember those days, ugh! He will grow out of the gas pains, even though that's hard to believe -but in the meantime, I swear by baby's bliss gripe water!
It's the only one that actually worked, and believe me, I tried them all!!!
I have also heard that Good Start was easier on the tummy.

Dr. Browns definately work for Alex. We used Dr. Browns since the day he came home. When he became gassy I thought it was the bottles and tried a variety of others and Dr. Browns were the only one he really did well with. Turns out it was his formula. He is now on Nutramigen. It has helped a lot. My Pediatrician also recommended after he eats to sit him up for 30 min this way everything settles into his tummy. He also suggested to put something under one end of his pack and play to lift it to a 45 degree angle for when he sleeps.
Gassy babies are not fun. Hope your baby feels better

my DS had bad gas. I was using Dr. Browns and then BOrn Free. They all SUCK! IMO. I went on to hunt for the right bottle for him and after spending over $150 in bottles. I found Playtex Advanced Vent Aire to be the best. ever since i started using them. DS has no gas. and is much happier.

I'll agree with you on the Good Start. that's what my DS is on now and loves it. but he was using the new bottles first an switched to god start
