Re: for those of you who get real Christmas trees
I get mine the weekend after Thanksgiving and I add the "Preserve" stuff to the water. I have never had one die before New year's.

Where do you get that? We're getting a real tree for the first time this year.

Where do you get that? We're getting a real tree for the first time this year. Most tree vendors carry it, but if not most garden centers do. Starkie Brothers in Farmingdale had it last season for sure.

Re: for those of you who get real Christmas trees
We usually get ours the first weekend in December. But we cut it down fresh so they usually last longer.

Re: for those of you who get real Christmas trees
We usually get ours in the first week of December at the latest and they last until after New year's. We cut ours down, which is probably why they last so long because otherwise they have already been cut for weeks before you get them.

Re: for those of you who get real Christmas trees
when my family got real trees, they always bought it around the 15th.... BUT they kept it outside (keeps better in the cold). We only brought it in and decorated it between 12/22-12/24. After new years, mom forbid us from turning on the lights, becuase the needles were already starting to be a bit loose (a sign that it was fairly flammable)
on that note: to test the freshness of a tree: grasp the end of branch in your hand and gently pull on it. If a few needles come off, it is already irreversibly drying out, and is a bit of a fire hazard. A tree doesn't have to begin to brown to be past its prime

I go to Baiting Hollow Nursery off Sound Ave. It's $30 for a tree, and they take a $5 deposit to rent a saw, but you can also bring one. Some people bring electric saws and last year my brother brought an axe! haha!

Re: for those of you who get real Christmas trees
Roughly 10 days or so before Christmas then we take it down on Little Christmas. Its pretty dead by then and there are needles all over the house!
