For the ladies with PCOS

Hi ladies...I'm new to this particular board, so please forgive me if this has been asked before...I'm just curious how long everyone with PCOS waited after deciding to ttc before seeing a specialist/RE?

My DH and I are 31 & 30 respectively and just decided to ttc. I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago & over the past 10+ years have had varying levels of severity with the symptoms. In any event, I'm actually feeling really good now and (sorry if this is TMI) have been having pretty regular (2.5 - 3 day) periods for about a year now without the help of any BCPs or other meds. Even so, I'm not sure that I'm actually ovulating...We're eager to get going, so in your experience do you think that we should give it 3 months or 6 months of trying first or should I not waste any time and see an RE ASAP? Thanks so much for your thoughts and opinions! Chat Icon

If you know for sure you have PCOS, you might want to consider going straight to a RE. Are you IR? Are you on Metformin? Are your cycles regular?

Re: For the ladies with PCOS

I was diagnosed with it in June and my ob/gyn put me on met for 3 months. When that didn't have success, she sent me an to an RE. I wish I had gone right from the beginning, though.

Re: For the ladies with PCOS

I was diagnosed w/ PCOS way before TTC. They told me then that 'the odds are' that I was going to have to see an RE.
I think the best thing you could do would be to see an RE. If they don't think anything is wrong they'll send you back to TTC on your own or w/ the help of your OB/GYN. If they suspect something is wrong, they'll give you a plan of action, which will give you peace of mind. GL!!! Lots of us on the IF board have PCOS. Please feel free to contact us w/ any other questions- as all of us don't come over to TTC all the time. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: For the ladies with PCOS

I was told I have PCOS in May. I was put on Metformin. I am still on it now. I was given a rx for Clomid earlier this month. I have not taken them yet. I have chosen to go see a RE before taking the clomid. I want to make sure I am getting the best care and options for me.

Re: For the ladies with PCOS

The specialist I saw said that the best chances of getting pregnant with PCOS is a combination of Clomid, Metformin and Dexmethasone. I got pregnant on the first try with DD (due in one week). And on the third cycle with DS (he's 21 months).

Thank you ladies SO much for your support and good luck to you all too!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I’m going to call to make an appt. ASAP. Does anyone have a doc that they would recommend that’s on the south shore (in the Babylon/Bay Shore area)? I used to see an RE regularly in Huntington a few years ago, but she closed her office & I just went back to my regular ob/gyn and not treating it at all (I’m a very bad girl). Back then I was on BCPs, Metformin & Spironolactone, but now I’m only taking the Spiro…Based on my history & after doing some research, I suspect that I'll probably need the help of Clomid, so I'm going to go sooner rather than later Chat Icon Thanks again!
