Foot turning in, Orthopedist recommendation?

Hello,
My 18 month old DD's right foot turns in when she's walking and her doctor would like us to see an orthopedist. Does anyone have an recommendations or experience with this? I live in Lindenhurst but would be willing to travel. Thanks!

I go to Dr Ronald Lewis is syosset. I'm in west islip so it is a hike for me too, but my ped highly recommended him for the same reason.

Can I ask how is it turning in? Is it like clubfoot or does it start more from her ankle? Is she fully walking? I just wanted to compare how DS is.

Honestly, I'm not sure off the exact way it's turning in, but I think it's more from the ankle. She is 18 months and is walking/running all over the place but I do notice her tripping more than other kids. She did walk pretty early by 10 1/2 months which I think may have contributed to this. Thanks for the recommendation. What did the orthopedist recommend?

I second Dr. Lewis. We took DD to him when she was born with clubbed feet. He worked wonders with her.Having said that, I must caution you with 3 things that I know are problematic for many people. First, his office is always running behind so it's not uncommon to have to wait upwards of an hour after your appointment time to be seen. Second, it can take a long time to just get an appointment. And last, in my opinion, his bedside manner stinks. Don't get me wrong, he is very professional BUT don't expect any TLC or to be treated with kid gloves---it's unlikely to happen. He cuts right to the chase.

ETA: When we went it was to the East Meadow office and we also live in Lindenhurst.

DS has to wear "straight-last shoes" you can look up pics online of what it is. Just really hard heavy walking shoes that keep his feet straight. He's 12 months and started wearing the shoes at 10 months. There's been a little improvement but didnt want to see him again until he's 15 months. So I guess it should continue to get straighter, which is good! He isn't walking yet, but standing and cruising since 7.5 months. He didnt qualify for PT bc he's not really late for walking yet and they dont think it should impede his walking, I was just nervous about it. It's very comforting to know that your DD is walking.

Oh and I agree with the PP, both times I've been there I go first thing in the morning, no wait at all. When we leave though, the waiting room is packed! Get an early appt if you can! And he is very professional and not very kid friendly, but his PA is so sweet. They both know what they're doing so thats all that matters. GL! Chat Icon

Re: Foot turning in, Orthopedist recommendation?

I remember DH diagnosing a kid at the playground with blount's disease who had a foot turning in.

I don't know if it is too far for you but DH works at Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. They are a specialty hospital for ortho. I can ask DH for a ped recommendation if you'd like.

I had the WORST experience ever with this office and would never ever recommend him to my worst enemy

See my post about it here. DO NOT USE RONALD LEWIS

I got a rec on here for Dr. Gaffney in Garden City and have been really happy with the practice.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but I didnt have to wait longer than 5 mins everytime I went and the office let me write a check no problem for DS's visit. I used a credit card the first visit also.
