Fluid intake for a toddler with a high fever
DS has some type of viral infection. Was at the dr 2 times this week. His temperature has been between 100-104. He was drinking fluids on Tuesday (when he first got sick).. Now he refuses to drink anything except milk.. He has had 3 cups of it today... He has had some ice pops. He really isn't eating much... He also has a chesty cough.. He is getting Tylenol for the fever and Claritin because his allergies are killing him too..
Is it ok to give him more milk then he usually drinks when he is sick like this? I know he needs his fluids!!!

I would give him milk unless you think he's too congested and even then, I would still give it to him bc he needs to be hydrated. DS had a stomach virus in Dec and it got to the point where I was giving him liquids with a syringe (he's 3).
As a side note my DS has severe allergies (according to the allergist) and it's been rough. Hoping your DS gets some relief soon.

The milk doesn't seem to be making his congestion worse. I gave it to him because it is better then nothing.. He was taking some sips of Gatorade yesterday. Won't touch Pedialyte. Even the ice pops..
Allergies are going to be bad this year!!!! He gets Zyrtec on his really bad days... It makes him hyper!!!
He has been running a low grade temp all day so I hope this is the end of it..

If he's only drinking milk, then I wouldn't worry about giving him more than usual. Yes, milk can increase congestion (although my pediatrician doesn't necessarily feel this is true, I've heard this from multiple sources), but it's important to keep him hydrated. When my DD wasn't really drinking for a day when she had bronchiolitis, my dr. told me to try soup, Jello, fruit cups, ices, & sorbet...and watch for at least 3 peepee diapers a day.

He is only eating ice pops and drinking milk. He has had more then three peepee diapers per day... Thank you :)
He did eat some smiley fries yesterday. First real food for him in days..
