Flu shots
If you haven’t gotten the flu shot and plan to get it, please make the time do it soon. The flu virus seems to be so bad year and is getting worse.

Flu shots
But also...we all got the shot and both DH and DD got Influenza A. The vaccine does not protect against the H2N3 strain that is circulating epidemically.

Re: Flu shots
Yeah I was going to say, the shot is not very effective this year. The strain that is running rampant is not in the shot. That is why it's so bad this year- because even people who got the shot are getting the flu

DH got the shot and got sick. The shot will at least help with some strains.

Medical professionals are telling people the shot was only 10% effective this year. Up your vitamin D! That helps!

I know this may not be a popular reply but please clean your houses using Lysol and/or bleach.
Everyone is using all natural this or that - and yea, I get it. There are harmful chemicals in the products I mentioned but when it comes to this time of year, you need to use them. Wait until your kids are sleeping and pets are away. Just go around and wipe every light switch, doorknob, refrigerater handle, phones, tablets... anything that is touched and over looked for germs. It’s helps keep the germs from spreading through the house.
And like PP said - up your vitamin D. Definitely helps with your immunity.

I also swear by this:
IP6 Gold
If you read up on it, it is extremely good for your immune system. In fact, it was developed by a doctor for cancer patients.
I used to get sick constantly with all kinds of funk that lasted for weeks. I had gotten a viral form of pink eye that had me feeling like shit for over 2 weeks. That was the last straw after being sick all winter before that. I looked into this and started taking it religiously and I swear I can't remember the last time I was sick.

You are completely right! It's like that commercial, you going to trust a lake breeze when the flu ravishes your house. Bleach and bleach often! Plus the flu shot, like every year, is not really that effective. I think CDC said about 30% against H3N2 strain, which is 80% of the flu cases this year. Definitely not worth all the risks that go a long with the flu shot, but that's just me. I just hope everyone does their own research and does what they are comfortable with. But for goodness sake clean with real cleansers!!

True and I have no problem cleaning with bleach. However, if I catch something from my kids it's most likely going to be because they cough practically in my face or drink from my water bottle, not bc we touched the same doorknob.

Flu shots
My kids school was at 80% attendance today, and 5 teachers were out sick. The flu is hitting HARD this year- the school secretary said that most of the parents who have been calling their kids out sick have said their kids got the shot.

I feel like its like that every year too.... the one year DH had the flu, the docs at Stat Health told him they were seeing an onslaught of flu diagnosises from people who had the shot. That was like 2 years ago. Then DD got it that year(from him I guess) and she had the shot. Her ped said the same thing. Every year it's the same thing- oh the shot didn't work this year. Does it ever work?

Re: Flu shots
Do yourself a favor and get the flu shot.
I never got the shot but I did last year because I had a newborn. I then got the flu not once, but twice. Both times I was down and out for 2 days and then I was fine.
This year I did not got the shot but I sure got the flu and let me tell you, I was so freaking sick. The tamiflu did nothing...or at least it didn't feel like it did. I had 6 full days of fever. I was out of work for over a week. I got sick on a Wednesday and I did not feel like myself again until the following Saturday, so like 10 days later. My friend, who had the shot, only had the fever for about 3 days and was better in 5 days.
While the shot will not completely protect you, it sure does cut down on the symptoms.
Also, strep, pneumonia and a stomach bug are running rampant right now too so definitely disinfect!

I don't think it ever fully vaccinates but it definitely decreases the symptoms. Also, there is a theory that one day there will be a flu pandemic and those that were vaccinated will have built up immunities to said pandemic over the years.

yes this me and my DH last year with the flu. Had shot, and got flu, but only lasted few days. Much better than couple of years before when I caught flu in September, before I usually get the shot, and I was down for well over a week. I know everyone has their own opinion about the flu shot, but I strong urge everyone to get one.
That said there is a lot going around now. My DS has had strept throat twice in under a month. And my DH and I had an awful stomach flu.

Exactly. Everyone in my house and my friends all have had it and the flu A is spreading like wild fire among everyone I know. It’s bad! And we all got our shots in October!

Amazon sells Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide medical grade wipes. I have them. I take them on vacation with us and wipe down the room, airplane stuff, etc.! I also use them around the house.

I used to buy a Clorox cleaner spray with Hydrogen Peroxide instead of bleach. I loved it because mo bleach fumes. I forgot about that! I want to look for it again

Re: Flu shots
I believe I had the flu when I visited for Xmas and New Year’s. My health insurance excludes the US bc it’s so damn expensive, so I never got an official diagnosis. That being said, everyone else in the house was diagnosed. I’m still feeling some effects of it and it’s been over two weeks.
I did not have the flu shot and I regretted it when I was sick and it felt like someone had beat me up. But I’m not sure how much it would have helped really.

Also - if you have the flu- STAY HOME! Work will get by without you. And if your kids have the flu - keep them home!!!
I got the flu a few years ago (after getting the shot) because a bunch of flu stricken people continued to come to work... Even though I didn't interact with them directly - I learned, after getting the flu, that about 5 people on my floor had it.

Eh, I don’t believe in Elderberry, but that’s another topic. I continually washed my hands and still came down with the flu. When there are 9 people in a home, it can be really hard to avoid.
It sucks, plain and simple.

Re: Flu shots
I had a really weird experience with Elderberry. I used to get sick every fall and winter for a long period of time, so I started to take it daily. It definitely reduced the amount of time I was sick for, but didn't completely eliminate it.
This fall, I decided to stop taking it, and I didn't get sick at all. Of course, it could just be my personal reaction, but I found it strange.
