Flood in Basement
The rain that we had the other night was so extreme that it flooded our usually dry basement. The carpet in one corner is soaked and there is heavy padding underneath. We've had the dehumidifier pumping and I keep trying to pat the carpet dry with towels when I can. Is there anything else I can do?
The basement is starting to smell "damp" and I am worried.....I feel like there is no use pulling up the carpet bc all the water is in the carpet....

Re: Flood in Basement
do you have a carpet cleaner? If not I would rent one or buy one and suck up the excess water. We had a leak as well because we didnt realize we had a shingle blocking the gutter and mud blocked up the basement entrance drain. We used the carpet vac to suck up all the water, ran a fan, and the next day DH carpet cleaned them with soap and water. We h no smell or wetness

Re: Flood in Basement
i agree, use a carpet cleaner and extract the excess water as much as you can. keep the dehumidifier running. our basement flooded a few times and this is what we did. it dried within a day.
