First time homebuyer with insurance question

We're in contract, but still waiting to get a mortgage approval. Mortgage broker is saying we need insurance before we close. Should I be looking into home owner insurance now and what kind of information will I need to get quotes?

Re: First time homebuyer with insurance question

yes you should be looking now, it might take some time depending on where you are buying
you need to know the sqft of house, the address, if it has a pool, fireplaces, how many bedrooms, if it has a basement and attic, what types of dogs you have if any, how the house is heated, the year of the home or aprox age
they also asked me about any updates kitchen, windows, doors etc, they asked for the cross street

if the home has an alarm

they will also want to know if the house is oil and if the tank is above or below ground

you should start with the company you have your cars with if you like them. sometimes keeping your cars and house in one place gives you a discount.

we couldn't do that because we have Geico. they send you to travelers for home ins.

State farm wouldn't even quote us saying they weren't writting any more policys for 2010, and allstate said the same thing.

we went with Utica first, they had the best price
