First month off BCP
hi, ladies...i haven't been on here, ever...but we just came off BCP. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions moving fwd! Right now, I'm experiencing lots of headaches and moodswings; i'm sure this is my body reacting to being off the pill after quite a few years. I'm waiting for my teen acne to return, too. LOL. Since it's the first month off and we're still trying to "plan" things (even though I know you never really can), I guess my first question is: when is it considered safe to TTC? I think I have heard you should be really careful not to get preg the first 2 months off. Any truth?

My doc said to use protection the first month off BCP. Of course, I didn't listen and we got PG right away and MC'd. I would say you're safe after a month off BCP, but you should probably speak to your doc.

congrats and welcome!! my dr told me to wait 2-3 months for a couple of reasons-
1) the chance for M/C is greater in the begining since ur uterine lining isn't as thick as it shoud be
2) u won't be sure when u ovualted so ur due date wont be as precise as it could.

I have had multiple doctors tell me that you are even more fertile the 1-2 months right after stopping your pill. Never metioned anything about any danger in getting pregnant at that time. IMO it should be fine. The hormones in the pill do not build up in your body (that's why you have to take it every day) so I can't imagine why there would be any danger. But of course I am not an MD! JMO. To reassure yourself, give your doctor a call.

I'm not sure about BCP since I was never on them but I know plenty of people who got pregnant the first month they came off them!

Welcome! Every doctor is different, some will tell you it's okay to TTC right away, others will recommend waiting 1-3 months to let your system adjust.
I would give your OB a call just to get their perspective.

Wow Lana - Welcome!!
The general rule of waiting a month or two after the pill is to learn your cycles, see if the pill was masking any troubles. But, it's no more dangerous to get pregnant the month you went off than it is to get pregnant 2 years later. BCP leaves your system as soon as you stop taking it (which is why you MUST take it every day to prevent pregnancy  ).

There is no danger in getting pregnant right after coming off the pill.
The only reason why Drs. advise people to wait is so that your cycle gets back to normal and they can properly date the pregnancy. Coming off BCP and getting pregnant immediately can make it difficult to date the pregnancy.

thanks again...although i have lurked over the years, coming off the pill finally was a big step as we prepare for this. :) everyone here seems to be a wealth of knowledge. i appreciate the advice.

this is my 1st month off, so i feel your pain... is your hair going crazy? mine has been a mess!
my doc said that it's safe to ttc right away. it may initially be hard to tell how far along you are if you conceive right away (b/c your cycles would be irregular).

My doctor said I could start right away but recommended that I take prenatels.
ditto. she told me to start trying right away and to come back if nothing happens in 6 months.

My sister-in-law got pregnant right after coming off of BCP and her pregnancy and her baby were both totally 100% fine.

nope! we spent a lot of time looking around exploring our options, but ultimately we bought a house in Hunt. Village. We're very happy! :)

It took me a while to even get AF after going off BCP. So I would wait until you go through one cycle before trying. Just gives you a chance to see what your cycle is like. However, I know many people that TTC right away and got pg before then even got AF. I wish you lots of luck Lana!
