Figaro is gone

First off, thank you MrsMessina for posting for me.

Figaro was doing well with his sub-q fluids but took a turn for the worse last night. It just all happened so very, very fast. He was fine up until Sunday but that night I noticed that he was a little wobbly when he was walking. Last night was bad though. I did his fluids and he was eating his treats but then he couldn't jump down from the sink. I don't know what happened. Maybe he had a stroke. He could just about walk. Going up and down the stairs was hard for him. It was late and we were worried he wouldn't make it through the night. DH stayed most of the night with him. I woke up and was happy to see him look back at me from the couch but, I knew it was time this morning. He couldn't even get off the couch. I carried him to the kitchen. He barely ate breakfast. Then, he got his toenail stuck on the kitchen chair when he was trying to get down. I had only left him for 5 minutes and I found him hanging there by his toenail. He had pooped and pee'd on himself. He didn't have the strenght to pick himself up, to cry or to get his toenail out. I helped him and he just laid on the floor. I knew. I called the vet and they told me to come at 11. It was only 8:30 and I was worried he was suffering and wouldn't make it until then. So, they fit us in at 9:45. The vet said the mass in his stomach was big so it could have been that. She also said he looked yellow so his liver was probably failing too. My poor little man. While we were waiting for the vet to come in, we danced together one last time. It was fast and he went peacefully. He didn't even fight it.

I miss him so much. We'd been through so much together. We travelled half way across the country, twice!!!

I got him as a kitten when I was a junior in college at Albany. After school, we lived with my parents on LI. Then, when I moved out we lived in Brooklyn for a couple of years. Then I met DH and moved with Figaro to St. Louis. Figaro hated DH at first. It took a long time for Figaro to accept DH. DH tried so hard to gain Figaro's love and I knew that any man who would try to gain a cat's love and acceptance, was a keeper. He was my heart and I'll always love him.

I wish I could take away your pain. It hurts so much to lose a pet, I understand.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's easy to tell how much you love him and how he was your family. It's good that you were able to be there for his last moments, he went on with love.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you gave him a GREAT life. I am sure he is not in pain anymore and can now watch over you and your family

how terribly sad. I lost both my older kitties this year. I know how you feel.

You two had a special love. So sorry for your loss.
