Fertile After delivery

So I know they have you wait 6 weeks after the baby is born before you can do any Chat Icon but my question is arent you extremly fertile after??? What are the chances of getting preggo right away after without using bc or condoms?

You are extremely fertile after delivery! This is how Irish Twins happen.

My old boss didn't listen to doctors orders and had sex anyway. yeah, well she got pregnant 6 weeks after her daughter was born with TWINS, so she had Irish Triplet's Chat Icon

My brother and I are 12 and a half months apart. My mother's response to that when we were older was, "Breastfeeding is NOT a form of birth control!" It can happen!

What do you mean? Because she said something about breastfeeding also. Something about ovulation.

From what I've read, breastfeeding was thought to be a form of birth control because you wouldn't get your period so it was thought that you weren't ovulating. But it's not true.

Re: Fertile After delivery

we Chat Icon almost 6 weeks to the day of Chat Icon being born. we aren't going back on BCP either. we are either doing PNP (what we've done so far) or condoms (which we haven't purchased yet Chat Icon Chat Icon ). it took IVF to get me pregnant that first time so we kind of feel like if it happened naturally now, it would be somewhat of a blessing.
but it is very hard to decide on birth control after baby is born. i know i dont want to do any type of hormonal BCP, and condoms, well, you know how condoms feel. and yes, while you are nursing you don't get AF for quite awhile (some dont get it ever while nursing due to high prolactin levels), however you can absolutely get pregnant. my friend got pregnant with her third while nursing her second, never got AF.

After I delivered, I think every single nurse that came in told me

If you have sex, you WILL get pregnant - and then they would turn to DH and say the same thing!

It was funny because three different nurses told us! Did I *LOOK* like I was hot for him at the moment or something? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Fertile After delivery

There are a few rules to how BF makes it less likely you'll get PG, but none are fool-proof and shouldn't be used as BC if someone doesn't want another.

- You have to be BF exclusively - no pumping, no supplementing
- You should not have had your AF return
- Your child should not be eating any solids

Something else, I forgot Chat Icon

Point is, all these things make it less likely that you'll ovulate but you don't know when the first time you will ovulate will be b/c you will get your AF 2 wks after that - KWIM?
I had a friend that used BFing as BC. SHe was PG 6 months PP b/c she ovulated - AF never returned.

Well the thing is that first time you ovulate you don't get your period first. You ovulate (and have no idea when this occurs) and THEN you get AF. So, if you're not using protection - it's def. possible to get PG when you ovulate before you know AF is on her way back.

This can be true but that doesn't mean that you're not ovulating. Your cycle may be screwy for a bit but eggs still may drop Chat Icon

When the dr. told me no Chat Icon for 6 weeks I gave him a look like "there is no way he's going near me". He responded with, "You may not be thinking about it, but I assure you, he definitely is." Chat Icon Chat Icon

OH WOW!!! that's intense!! and crazy!!
I honestly can't imagine. I have 1 now who will be 3 weeks tomorrow and i cannot imagine having a 2nd newborn before this one is a little more grown.

I was an irish twin myself (the younger of the 2). and as if that wasn't bad enough.... when i was 2 a 3rd baby came along!

ahhhh!!

I'm worried about this! I definitely want more, but not THAT close! I cant go on BCP or any horomonal type of BC, and we HATE condoms. We always just did pull and pray. I'm nervous that wont be enough...
