Felt so bad yesterday
Went to dd's parade. She is 6 months but to us it was extremely impt for us to be there. Some of the older kids ran out an they looked so sad when they saw all the other kids family members but theirs werent there. Little girl maybe 3 or 4 started bawling that her mom and dad weren't there. Just wanted to hug her.

Felt so bad yesterday
its really sad My friend missed her sons Halloween parade yesterday - unfortunately i think its really hard for daycares and schools to have these events and invite parents...many of us work which is why they are in daycare and we dont all have the luxury of taking time off for things like that

Felt so bad yesterday
There seemed to only be one kid left when we were leaving yesterday as well (an infant). So sad. We were the last family there since DS 2 wanted to finish his snack and took his sweet time doing so (which is opposite DS 1 who was the first one to leave his class).
I don't recall having that many people show up for the daycare parade in the past (but, they did push it back this year to 4pm so more people were probably able to make it).

Felt so bad yesterday
I was able to take off but my husband was not. I felt bad for a little girls everyone was in costume and her parents came a lot later. She looked around at everyone and seemed so sad. I hardly make any events at daycare so I was happy I could but normally I am not there.

Felt so bad yesterday
Our daycare has TOT from room to room in the am and then class parties during afternoon snack.
There weren't parents there. Many parents picked up erly to take the kids TOTing but we picked DS up at 4 and probably 1/2 the kids were still there.
Kids cry on a normal day when someone else's parents come to get them so I see a holiday no different.

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
We've been the parents that couldnt be there. With kids in daycare and school aged kids, there are SO many parties, parades, events, etc that parents are invited too, we couldnt possibly take off for all of them, so we save the time off for the big ones.
I couldnt, but thankfully DH was able to make the parade at school yesterday...but it happens where neither of us can make it to something.

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
I'm sure it's extremely important to the other parents as well. It's not like they don't care. I'm a teacher and Halloween isnonenof the biggest days of the year. Sure I could take off, I guess, but I save my days for when my children are sick. We sent my parents for my DS. I understand your post but I think it's a hit insensitive for parents on here who may not have been able to attend their child's.

Felt so bad yesterday
I work FT and hate that there will be so many of DS events that I probably won't be able to make :( Just because of work.

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
Ugh that sounds heartbreaking. As a mom that makes me feel awful. This is why as much as I get aggravated with my job and my boss, I thank my lucky stars every single day that I have this job- where I can pretty much work from home, leave early, do whatever I have to for my DD. I know that SO many people don't have that luxury so I put up with a LOT of stress and crap- just for that.

I wasnt trying to come across as insensitive. Sorry if I did. I completely understand why parents cant be there because of work. I just felt really bad for the little girl
This is also another reason I am hesistant to leave my job because I have the luxury of being able to work from home when I need to and being able to make events like this.

As a working parent, I HATED when the daycare would schedule these types of activities during the day. Hello, my kid is there because I have to work!

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
we missed the parade yesterday. i usually make every single one.
ask to leave early, to go for the 15 minute parade.
the thing is, its not even the parade, its just so they can see my face there. I hate seeing the kids who search for their parents, but they arent there.
but it's so freakin hard, they make the parade @ 3pm. if you work in the city, you can barely go to work. DH hit terrible traffic and didnt get there until 5pm. neither of them mentioned it, i think the excitement of trick or treating, & people ringing our door bell won over the parade yesterday.

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
Ugh, I hate this type of thing. It really makes me feel bad that daycares do things like this when obviously the kids are there becuase the parents are working. Many people have jobs that they can't just leave early or take off the day.
It's a cute idea but I sorta wish they wouldn't do it and this is coming from a family that usually is able to have someone attend.

Felt so bad yesterday
The same thing happens in school. In K last year it was really sad when the kids would cry when they didn't have a family member attend the parties.

I work from home, so LUCKILY I can be at all my kids events. I feel so badly for the parents and children who cant do that, and I always make sure to pay special attention to any LO's without parents there.

Re: Felt so bad yesterday
I know some parents who don't come because the kids get upset when the parents leave.
At our preschool yesterday, I didn't see any kids cry because their parents were not there. However, I saw several kids bawling when their parents left.
I always sit with the kids we know if a parent could not make it.
I do wish preschools/schools/daycares would try to accommodate working parents. Yesterday, one kid had a Halloween party at 10:30 and the other kid had their class party at 3:00. Very inconvenient!

Yep, as if I didn't/don't feel bad enough already.... :( I work because I have to NOT because I want to. Of course I would have loved to be there, but it wasn't possible. Now, I am picturing my son being the "poor child" with nobody there that loves him...

I read so many threads where women say they work, not because they are desperate for money, but because they NEED to get out of the house. They just "can't" be home with their kids all day.

Right but I don't think any mother would miss their child's parade for the hell of it. I am sure if a mother missed it, there is a VERY good reason- they just couldn't get out of work! And I am sure if they had a choice, they would rather be with their kid!

Felt so bad yesterday
This post actually came up because my co-worker told me she never goes to any events because the kids don't remember it. And one of the mothers who works a block away had to be talked into coming by the daycare teacher bc she would have rather gotten her nails done. Heard that straight from the mom's mouth.
I'm not judging, sorry I came across like that. I just felt bad for the crying kid. Dh grew up with his parents only coming to one school event in his entire childhood. I'm sure no one on this board is like that.
