Felt so bad for a woman in BRU yesterday
I went to BRU yesterday for a quick trip before getting son from daycare. They had diapers on sale for one day so I wanted to stock up. While getting the good, a woman asked me how far along I was. We started chatting and she told me she's due any day. After talking for a few minutes and her asking for suggestions on a pack and play, she tells me that she is trying to get prepared since she still doesn't have much for the baby. it turns out that this child was not planned and that she was "violated" (as she put it) after the baby's father tied her up and raped her. I honestly don't think she was putting me on as she said it pretty matter of factly and didn't seem to want any sympathy. She was commenting on how expensive everything was but that she wanted to get the best of whatever she could for her child. She appeared excited about the child coming. She was alone with her 2 young children and was trying to purchase diapers, a pack and play and stroller for her child. I wished her well and left. She was truly pleasant and wished me well also. I just couldn't stop thinking about her as I was walking to the checkout. She was all alone, having a baby that created out of something very vicious (rape) but still excited and trying to make a good life for the baby. So I walked back, gave her the coupon I was going to use for diapers along with some other coupons. I also gave her a $5 off a $25 purchase I got. The woman seemed so truly grateful and appreciative and had tears in her eyes.
I walked away feeling bad but good. It made me realize how precious these little lives inside us are and how lucky I am to have DH. I don't know why I posted this so if you got this far, thanks for reading my rant.

That was really sweet of you to do that for her. I know she really appreciated it, and always nice to do something for someone who does appreciate it.

I think I was just amazed at how excited she was about the baby. Personally (and this is just me!) I don't know how I would feel if that happened to me. The fact that she was trying to make a good life for this child just stuck a chord with me and I still can't stop thinking about her.

That was so great of you Hollie!
it sounds so horrible on her behalf but for her she is def taking this well and as a good thing in her life, even though it came from a bad one.
I praise her on that and would prob feel the same hearing that.

Very sad but amazing woman for having the baby. So nice of you to help her!
If anyone runs into someone who seems to need help, you can direct them to Birthright- it's a nonprofit that provides help to pregnant women- clothes, diapers, formula, etc. There is one in Wantagh right off Wantagh Ave.
Also, my mother started MOMMAS House many years ago, which is a home for pregnant teenagers/young adults who are homeless. So if you ever hear of someone in that situation you can also refer them to MOMMAS House- they share the same Wantagh office with Birthright.

What amazing strength this woman has! Although this baby was not created in a happy or welcoming state sounds like it will be blessed to call this woman it's mother  !
You did a wonderful thing by sharing and I'm sure this woman was thinking about you as much if not more than you were thinking about her.
