Feeling like a mommy failure

Kieran had had a stomach virus since Friday. He seemed to be getting progressively better pretty quickly though. By the time he woke up yesterday morning, his temp was back down to normal, and all day, he was his usual happy-go-lucky self. He ate a good breakfast, but didn't eat much lunch or dinner. We brushed it off thinking he's been going through an independent phase where he doesn't want to be spoonfed anymore. Also, we had a bunch of family over for the Superbowl and thought he was just too distracted to eat. Fast forward to bedtime last night, I was nursing him before bed and about 5 minutes in, he sat up and puked up like every little morsel that was in his stomach. Totally caught me off guard. 5 seconds later, he was happy as a clam. My husband gave him a bath, while I cleaned up. He went right to bed afterward. He woke up around 5:45 hungry, so I went in and nursed him and he went right back to sleep. About 10 minutes later, I ran to the bathroom and threw up! He woke up for the day around 8, and I was still miserable, so my husband got him up. He went to change him and his diaper was dry. From about 12 hours ago. I told him to check if his soft spot was depressed and it was, slightly. So, he took him to the ped (while I continued to puke my guts out every hour for almost 6 hours straight Chat Icon). She confirmed that he is slightly dehydrated, but nothing to get concerned about yet. She said to make sure he drinks water and to get some pedialyte into him, and continue trying to get him to eat. Well he has not gotten his appetite back yet. All he wants to do is nurse. Except I'm so drained from puking that I have next to nothing to feed him! It broke my heart this afternoon when I went to nurse him and he just kept going back and forth and then got so upset because he wasn't getting anything.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon. I made him a bottle of BM and he drank maybe 1.5 oz. Can't get him to eat any more than a few puffs. He wants nothing to do with the pedialyte. I got maybe an ounce or 2 into him with a syringe. He's had a little bit of water. His fever is going back up again (just took it and it's 102.8). His fontanel is still sunken. I can't even feed my baby. Sorry for rambling. It's killing me to feel so helpless with my baby boy Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Feeling like a mommy failure

Kiera had a bad diarrhea bug a few weeks ago. Same with the dry diapers and not eating. I was able to get Pedialyte into her after a day of next to nothing! Hopefully he will feel better tomorrow!

Re: Feeling like a mommy failure

Thanks ladies, you girls are the best Chat Icon Sorry for the pity party- I just can't seem to get over the guilt! He didn't even ask to nurse before bed, which he always ALWAYS does. That broke my heart. I was able to wrestle a bit more pedialyte into him with the syringe. Danica- I didn't even know they made ice pops! Thanks for the suggestion- we will definitely try that tomorrow. I haven't been able to eat anything all day but I've been downing gatorade to try and rehydrate. I'm gonna try some oatmeal and see if I can stomach it. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.Chat Icon
