FB mom groups and "negative" business reviews
Just curious, if you belong to one (or several), what is the stance on this?
I feel bad for someone who runs one I belong to, because it seems like she is getting a lot of pressure, especially when anyone posts anything negative about a business in the town.
I am married to a small business owner, and I personally feel that it's very helpful to share negative experiences and come on and ask questions about a potential business before using it.
FWIW, I also have been on this site for awhile, and I remember there being controversy if a negative review was posted about a LIF vendor since they pay to be here.
What are your thoughts?

I think it depends on the type of negative experience. If the person just didn't like the attitude of an employee, or has some other petty complaint, I don't think that should be posted. If the business is scamming people, taking money and not providing services, is serving food but is unsanitary, or in some way dangerous to the public, that is more serious and should be allowed to be posted for all to see.

I agree with you. I also get that sometimes places have off days, or a young kid working there that screws up.
Should those things be shared? Maybe.
I'm to the point though where I'm feeling that I shouldn't ask if others are having the same negative experiences with a business because it will start controversy and temper tantrums, KWIM?

I think it's SOMETIMES good to ask, but again, it depends on the business. If its a well known, been in business forever place, I'd rather go in and see for myself. Like the town i grew up has a bakery thats been there for 50+ years...id rather go in and try it out myself than ask for reviews, bc its impossible to always please everybody, but i wouldn't want someones negative experience to deter me from a potentially great experience. If its a service like a plumber, handyman, construction, etc, its important to get feedback, but maybe you can ask for people to private message you their experiences to cause less "controversy".
(I was the same way with college professors, I NEVER went by other people's reviews and I had some great professors who I never would have taken if I listened to other people. So I'm always leery of others negative reviews, unless its something MAJOR like I listed in my 1st post.)
