I'm still reading and learning about the whole thing. I'm concerned that the lab leak was never fully taken seriously in the beginning. I am not sure if it really mattered at that time where it came from in China. China shares little reliable information. Mask mandates - not sure where the controversy is. In the beginning until current day - things are changing and evolving. That is science and research - to constant challenge to either prove or disprove theories.

I agree with the ever changing science. I feel like Fauci has been constantly faulted for shifting gears but the reality is, as he/we learned more about COVID adjustments needed to be made. That is how science always works, as the general public we're just not use to see that unfolding in real time like we did with this virus.
As for where the virus came from, I lean towards the side of "it doesn't matter at this point". I wouldn't look to China for honesty and ultimately, whether it was lab created or not the damage has been done. I feel like finding ways to combat COVID and keep everyone safe is of more importance than where it came from. I am not sure we will ever get satisfactory answers where that is concerned.
I think given the immense amount of scrutiny and pressure Fauci was under, he did a good job. From what emails I have seen, he seems to have been level headed and professional throughout. It's easy to criticize him but I think it's remiss of anyone to forget that he's been an expert in infectious disease for decades under multiple administrations, to try and paint him as anything other than the professional and expert that he is makes no sense whatsoever.

There are 3k emails out there so a lot to read but as I have said in the past, I think things will start coming up about all of this.
It does matter where it started and how it was handled, IMO. This was something that they closed the world down for and innocent people died.

I agree. We absolutely need to figure out where it came from to put measures in place to try and prevent it from happening again. Either spending more effort on cleaning up "wet markets", or putting more oversight on labs, etc.
When it first started spreading, that wasn't the highest priority. Like a car accident or house fire, the top priority is to deal with the immediate danger.
A different team(s) can focus on the how and why.

We are the most powerful country in the world. I think that people forget that sometimes. There are absolutely ways for us to get definitive answers. China's economy depends on the US. There is an immense amount of pressure that we can put on them to get to the bottom of whatever we want to get to the bottom of.

The emails aren't a huge deal at all. It really boils down to an attempt by some to discredit Fauci, plain and simple. From what I have read, I am not seeing anything damning or overwhelmingly concerning.
As for the masks, science changes. When you know more, you do better. They didn't think masks mattered initially as the information we had at the time didn't support the need for them. You can't fault anyone for changing course as we knew more about the virus and how best to protect ourselves.

The email was sent at a time before coronavirus was declared a pandemic and before the CDC advised the public to wear masks for protection.
"A lot has transpired since then. If you had to go back and do it all over again, would you tell her something different? Do you regret that?" Berman asked Fauci.
"Let's get real here -- if you look at scientific information as it accumulates, what is going on in January and February, what you know as a fact, as data, guides what you tell people and your policies. If March, April, May occur, you accumulate a lot more information and you modify and adjust your opinion and your recommendation based on the current science and current data," Fauci told Berman.
"So of course, if we knew back then that a substantial amount of transmission was asymptomatic people. If we knew that the data show that masks outside of a hospital setting actually do work when we didn't know it then. If we realize all of those things back then, of course," he said. I don't think we are the most powerful country in the world. I believe China is possibility. The Chinese could crush our economy. They are among the top holder of our debt but they won't even disclose how much they have. They have a quasi control over Taiwan. Should China get a aggressive and move control...that is the only place that we can get chips for cars, phones, etc. No other place in the world can make them small enough. Also, under Trump, we are no longer part of the Trans Pacific Partnership and that opened up tremendous trade opportunities for China to trade with others besides the US. Plus, China was way below it's promised imports from the US that also puts us at a disadvantage.
I think the US is in a very precarious spot.

And there are emails with him saying the masks only needed to be used by people with compromised immune systems and that asymptomatic people don’t transfer the virus.

The beginning of what? LOL You have a very conspiracy driven view of the world that MANY don't share. Regarding Fauci specifically, I certainly do not think he in ANY way was interested in controlling people nor do I believe he went out of his way to intentionally mislead us about the virus. At the end of the day, he is a scientist who follows the data and who has had fairly consistent messaging since day 1. He did his job to the best of his ability with whatever information he had at the time.
It's silly to keep harping on this government control angle, if they were really trying to control you than life would look A LOT different right now. Things are 95% back to normal, restrictions are being lifted as we ALWAYS knew they would be and for the most part, it sorta feels like pre-COVID life. The government is charged with the protecting the public interest, that is their job. They took the measures necessary to keep us all safe during a global pandemic and now that things are better, those measures are being phased out. Nobody (let alone the gov't) is out to control you VB, that's all in your head.

Are people thinking it will proof what??? It was a lie? It was man made and unleashed from China? No one ever needed to wear masks??
Not being snarky just interested what the controversy about them are.
I think it's the fact that anyone who said- hey this might have come from the lab- or hey this could have been man made an unleashed on purpose- was referred to as a conspiracy theorist and labelled a loony and dismissed.
And now it's coming out that some of those theories may in fact be the case and that even Fauci thought it was possible back in the beginning.
For some reason, you aren't allowed to accuse China of anything. They are just good and holy.
This has nothing to do with masks.
Masks were part of it also as he said in the beginning they would not work.
There seems to be a lot in those emails that could have saved peoples lives and that is why it is a huge deal.
The emails aren't a huge deal at all. It really boils down to an attempt by some to discredit Fauci, plain and simple. From what I have read, I am not seeing anything damning or overwhelmingly concerning.
As for the masks, science changes. When you know more, you do better. They didn't think masks mattered initially as the information we had at the time didn't support the need for them. You can't fault anyone for changing course as we knew more about the virus and how best to protect ourselves.
Not sure what it will take for some to see it is not about science but control in many situations.
I believe this is the beginning and I hope the people who need to be held accountable, will be. Even though I don’t have much hope the way this world works anymore.
The beginning of what? LOL You have a very conspiracy driven view of the world that MANY don't share. Regarding Fauci specifically, I certainly do not think he in ANY way was interested in controlling people nor do I believe he went out of his way to intentionally mislead us about the virus. At the end of the day, he is a scientist who follows the data and who has had fairly consistent messaging since day 1. He did his job to the best of his ability with whatever information he had at the time.
It's silly to keep harping on this government control angle, if they were really trying to control you than life would look A LOT different right now. Things are 95% back to normal, restrictions are being lifted as we ALWAYS knew they would be and for the most part, it sorta feels like pre-COVID life. The government is charged with the protecting the public interest, that is their job. They took the measures necessary to keep us all safe during a global pandemic and now that things are better, those measures are being phased out. Nobody (let alone the gov't) is out to control you VB, that's all in your head.
I don’t think you would believe anything different even if Fauci came to you and told you in person.
