Family and nick names for your DC
Does anyone in your family have weird/annoying nick names for you DC?
My MIL has some weird annoying ones for DD that I can't stand!

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
Everyone mainly calls Ds by his real name. But me and Dh call him all kinds of things like monkey boy, pork roll, hamchop, meatball, silly boy.

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
My family shortens my kids names which I don't really like. They say Dec and Ron(rone) I love their full names and see no reason to shorten them. I don;t say anything because its not a huge deal but I do cringe every time I hear it

our daycare lady calls him "Boo-ba-la" LOL When I first heard it, I was like she's giving loving nicknames to my son but honestly I love that she gave him a nickname, to me it showed how much she really truely cares for him...if that makes sense.
I'm probably the worst...."monkey", "mommies little banana" etc..etc..
We do get the "heyyy Jo-E" comments a lot, which makes me cringe but that only depends on whose mouth it's coming out of!

DH and I call DS everything under the sun. My MIL calls him Fatty and it boils my blood. He isn't fat but even if he was - you dont say that to a kid no matter how young/old they are.

My ILs call DS "Bubbie" - like Bobbie but with a "u" sound.
The only reason it irritates me is because they cal ALL babies that, come up with something original!

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
Its so funny but I can't stand when my mom calls DS Mikey, but don't mind when my dad does for some very odd reason lol. Maybe cause my dad has a nickname for me too? I dunno.
MIL and FIL barely see him, so I think I would flip if they called him anything but his name since they don't know him.
DH and I call him some bizzare stuff, but I love itv

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
My sister coined Eliza "El Diablo" as a fussy newborn. Then when she was baptized, she felt calling her "the devil" was no longer appropriate, so Eliza became "Eliza the Hun."
My mom coined Madelyn "Maddie Mouse" and "Miss Mouse". We also call Eliza "Liza Bean".
My nickname as a baby was: Lalou. My sister was: Chi-chi beans. My brother was Boonchkin. She also called my sister's kid "Cootchie frito" for awhile.
I'm starting to think my mom has been drinking in the afternoons for some time now.

OMG Cootchie frito
No one calls Christopher any nicknames, in fact, it has started to annoy me when people call him Chris now (I think because he calls himself Christopher now, as opposed to when he was a baby)
He has nicknamed himself "Big Boy Growing"

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
Only that I had a couple of family members call him "Nathan" for the first 3 mos of his life despite his name being Nathaniel (called Nate 99% of the time) They were told to stop too but kept doing it because they insisted it WAS a nickname for Nathaniel not a different name (as if it mattered... if we say we dont like it, knock it off!)

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
My family knew from the onset that I hated nickname or shortened names for my DD. We named her Ava and didn't think we would have a problem. Turns out WE both have a bunch of silly names for her we use mostly at home! Otherwise, we have 2 family members which constantly call her "A". I find that annoying!

MIL always says "how's grandma's girl?" which in and of itself is not that awful, but she has the loudest voice on the planet and has no idea how to use an indoor voice.

Re: Family and nick names for your DC
My BIL calls Robbie "Spuds" which is stupid and annoying to me. Robbie just gives him a dirty look and says "My name is Robert"
My FIL calls both of them "Boy" as in "What are you doing Boy?" or "Knock that off Boy!". It makes me roll my eyes - but it's not enough to get me really ticked off.
Both my kids are really good at correcting nicknames that they don't like. Noah will only allow certain people to call him NoNo or Noey or NoNee. Robbie insists on being called Robert by everyone EXCEPT family and close friends.

Bubula means little doll/baby in yiddish.
Actually, my screen name is a variation of this, as it was a nickname my relatives had for me when I was little.
Oh-- and I call Sasha, Sashala all the time too!

Dev does she say
"Bubbeleh" - That's a Yiddish term of endearment, like "dear" or "honey"!!!!
