EZ pass

Does most people have a pass? I might go over a toll bridge once a year and now it seems like you have to have it.

Most of the people I know have it. I myself rarely use mine but have it for the times that I do need it. You keep it charged with a small amount of money via your credit card, and it automatically replenishes when it gets down to a certain level.

EZ pass

I wouldn't drive without it. The cash lanes are long. I drive over the bridges a few times a year and it's worth it. Plus it works in other states

This! Worth getting for the few times I use it. I used to commute to work and needed it for everyday. Now I hardly use it, but there's no monthly charge. Just charges when you use it. We like to take trip to places we can drive to a few times a year and worth it for those too.

MTA is moving to cashless tolling on all tunnels and bridges by the end of 2017 (I need it for the Crossbay bridge in and out of Rockaway which was one of the first to move this spring) but Triboro bridge is next.

EZ pass

Dh and I each had one, but I recently sold my car and got rid of my EZ Pass.
I rarely used mine, the good thing was that the money put on the pass never expires.
DH uses his a few times a year, and we have the automatic replenishment, we have it set at $25.00. Tolls are discounted when you use EZPass.

I don't leave the island often but we have one, it's SO much easier and faster than cash lines. It's great on road trips which we do once or twice a year.

EZ pass

We travel often to LI and MA so we both have one. We also use the thruway pretty regularly. I can't imagine having to wait on the cash line.

EZ pass

Every time I leave Long Island I'm glad I have it. It just makes life easier even when I don't use it more than 1x a year.

Same here. I don't use it very often but it comes in handy when the cash lanes are so long. Plus it's a reduced price, so it makes sense to have it.

Re: EZ pass

We rarely use it, but I wouldn't want to do the cash lanes ever! On the occasions we have to use it, DH always asks WHY anyone would NOT use one when we see some of the lines for the cash lanes.

EZ pass

We don't own a car in the city but have an EZ pass because it's so much easier for travel -- granted, whenever we leave the city (or come back) we use it.

You don't need EZP for that. They scan your license plate and mail you a bill.

Actually it depends where you originally get your EZPass. I went thru this a year or so ago when I wasn't getting a charge by a coworker was. I didn't believe that he was getting charged, but indeed he was.

There are a few authorities where you can get an EZPass - some of them charge a dollar or two a month to have the pass. There all called EZPass but the issuing agency is different. (thruway pass, a port authority pass, a MTA pass, etc.) One of them charges a maint fee and the others do not. They all look the same so you'd never know.

If you got your pass thru the EZPass website and live in NY, then its free. If you got someplace else, then it may not be.

Definitely worth not having to wait in cash lines and yes I heard recently that they will be moving to cashless system soon

Isn't it only if traveled at certain times? So if you commute to work during rushhour then it may be cheaper but I don't think it's like that at its peak hrs.

Re: EZ pass

If it doesn't read you ezpass it will read your license plate and send you a bill in the mail. You wouldn't get any discounts you might get with the ezpass
