eye infection
anyones newborn have a clogged tear duct/infection?
I feel so bad, Noahs left eye is having all this white goop coming out of it and sticking closed and tearing...
The ped said as long as the white of the eye is not red its ok and to massage it and use warm compresses.
I just wonder how long it lasts?

Re: eye infection
Steven did. It only lasted about 2 days. She gave me a prescription for a cream and if it came back, I was to use it.
But I massaged his eyes every day and it never came back. Not really his eyes, but the spot where his eye meets his nose.

Try not to worry too much! This is VERY common.
I did it twice a day...morning and at night before bed. I never had to use the cream. I can post the name later, as I am at work and it is at home.

Michael had it too. I used the warm compresses and the cream. Both helped a lot.

Re: eye infection
I should look into this cream. We have been battling a gunky eye for 6 months. I was only told to massage it. So I do that 2-3 times a day. It has gotten MUCH better, almost non existant. At this point, its only there in the morning.
If at 9 months its not gone, ped said I have to go to an eye doctor.

This happend to my Godson. It is a minor procedure that they do to drain the duct.

Kerri had it for about a month...I never used any cream. I would massage the tear duct with a warm wash cloth 3-5x a day

Re: eye infection
Katia had this for the first 8 months of her little life. Nothing helped, no cream, no drops, no hot compress.
She just woke up one day and it was gone.

Re: eye infection
DS had it very bad. His right eye was always tearing and had goop in it. At one point it was crusted shut every morning. Up until just recently (8mths) it cleared up.
Let me knock on wood so it dont come back!!! He was given drops because it did become infected and I messaged them every night.

Re: eye infection
Congenital blocked tear ducts are pretty common.
Ryan had it in one eye. We just constantly cleaned it with a warm cotton ball and massaged the corner of his eye. One day around 8 months we realized that it wasnt clogged anymore. Not sure when it actually got better.
Again... its sooo common

Asher still gets this at almost 8 months. It keeps looking like it's clearing up, then it comes back. I hope it will finally clear up for good.

Re: eye infection
Ainsley had that at like 8 days old. I remember one eye having some goop in the corners and then in the evening it was just sealed shut. I freaked out and we took her to an urgent care facility. The doctor gave us a prescription for eye drops. It was completely gone by the next morning.

My friend's little girl had this. She had it for a few weeks...they way she got it to stop was when the baby had a stuffy nose, she used the boogy sucker and it actually cleared up her eye.
