extremely personal for the European folks!
Yeah its about baby boys penis. Many European cultures do not believe in circumcision especially if the family is right off the boat...like my in-laws.
So here is the question… are you circumcising baby boy??? If yes are you going against what the culture states/wants/believes??? And are you and DH in 100% agreement

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
I would not do it. The majority of baby boys across the world don't have it done. It seems to be more prevalent in America because of religious or cultural reasons.
It's really an unnecessary surgery.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
#ell no..... our little boy will remain intact. DH is an immigrant, and I'm 1st gen american, and we're in complete agreement.
Frankly, I never understood why american boys would be circumcised for any reason other than obvious religious reasons (being Jewish or Muslim). I believe this phenomenon (christian boys being routinely circumcised) may even be unique to the US.
IMO, since modern society has clean water and people shower daily, there is no longer a hygienic benefit to circumcision. The germans and pole function just fine remaining intact. No infection stories to be told....
FYI-I'm fairly sure it's not just a european thing to keep the hood... I believe latin america and most of asia (barring Muslim countries like Malaysia) also do not routinely circumcise their boys.
just my opinion....

We are not in agreement but our son will be circumcised. It's the only thing DH has expressed a strong opinion about and even though I disagree with his reason one of us had to back down.

not everyone in our family really believes it is necessary (we are italian). plus DH believes since he wasn't our son shouldn't be either. it's kinda been a hot topic. we keep going back and forth...

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
This might give me away but I am coming out next Monday anyway, so here it goes.
I did not want to have DS snipped, but DH insisted on it. It turned out that he could not have it done in the hospital and even now he is still not medically in a position to have it done. I am trying my damnedest to convince DH that it is not a necessary procedure, especially at this age. I am 1st generation here and DH is 5th. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
We are still on the 'mystery' team as far as sex goes, but if we have a son, we are definitely not getting him circumcised!
DH is from England, and no one there is circumcised except for those who do it for religious reasons.
It infuriates my husband the way the other men in my family - who are Italian! - try to convince him that circumcision is the right thing to do, so that our prospective son will "fit in" in the locker rooms!
I am glad you initiated discussion about this. I got to talking with a bunch of close friends recently, all of whom have sons under 1, and they are all very pro-circumcision.
And yes, DH and I are in total agreement on this. I just don't see any reason to do this.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
I have no opinoin on it, I don't feel it is medically necessary, I figure if we have a boy DH can decide if he wants it done - he has the same equipment and can probably relate more to how our DS would feel.
My brother did not have it done on his son when he was born 2 years ago.

If DH and I have a boy next time, we will not be doing it. He's Polish and I'm Italian and I don't think any of the men on either of our sides have had it done. We just don't believe it's necessary.

We're still not sure what we're doing. DH is from Latin America and is not circumcized. I told him it's his decision and I'll support whatever he decides.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
dh is greek and my family is from uruguay. none of the men in our families are circumsized and neither are our sons. we so no reason to do it. the men in our families have never had an issue and i don't believe in the "what will the other boys in the locker room think" theory. again none of the men in our family were ever put down from not being circumsized.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
We didn't do it and my DH is. I didn't find it necessary and the boys in my family are not not either. DH couldn't make up his mind and he still didn't have an answer half way through my labor so I finally decided. I think we made a good choice for us. My nephew had it done and the dr. didn't cut enough off so you never know how it might end up anyway.

I think I know who you are
We have two boys and we did not have them circumcised. We have had no problems whatsoever. I couldn't put my boys through that kind of pain for minimal benefit.
My DH was upset at first but now he's happy that we didn't do it. I think that if there is a decision that is permanent both parents should agree 100% before anything is done. If you can't agree then nothing should be done. But thats JMO

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
I am Greek, DH is a mutt. The men in my family are not, they all are in DH's family. We just did it for cleaning purposes. I was so sad to do it, but it's done and healing nicely! DH just assumed we definitely were doing it and I had no argument with it. I'm sure my parents didn't want us to, but they didn't say anything, as it is our son! HTH!
ETA: Most doctors use a numbing block and it takes a total of about 5 to 10 minutes. It's definitely sad, but my doctor said most babies sleep through it. Unless she just said that to make me feel better.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
DH and I are both first generation Italian-American and we had it done for our son. Our parents came over from Italy in the 50/60s and they had it done for the boys in our families..but other extended family did not.
We were in 100% agreement on this and if we ever have another son it will be the same.

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
I'm really on the fence about this...
DH is not circumcised--but I'm not sure how I feel about circumcising our son (if we have one). DH says he honestly doesn't feel strongly one way or the other. I do know that DH has never had any problems because he was always taught how to care for it.
Still thinking...

Re: extremely personal for the European folks!
I am surprised to see so many men haven't had it done. I never had a BF who wasn't circumsized (not that I have been around ).
We lean towards getting it done but it does scare me.

I honestly think she was trying to make you feel better. I have seen it done and let's just say they didn't use any numbing agents and the babies certainly did not sleep through it.
