Re: excuses for not drinking
My family is like your work - you don't go to their bbq's, dinners, etc without having a drink so I dealt with the same thing. Unfortunately I never did find a good excuse and basically they all knew. For work, though, I would recommend an O'Doul's in a glass if you are a beer drinker. And maybe pick one person to confide in - this way they can help deflect the questions that will inevitably crop up. Good luck!!

* On Antibiotics * On a Strict Diet / workout routine * Detoxing your body * Drank too much this weekend and are still gun-shy
I didn't have to worry about going out every 2 weeks but I did have to go to 2 events where I still wasn't ready to share my news. I used the Antibiotics excuse at one event - I still had people try to convince me that it's no big deal to drink while on medication. And then the other one, I got club soda with lime or something like that where it still might pass for a drink like "vodka & tonic". This is of course easier to do if you can go up to the bar and order it yourself without everyone hearing you.
Good luck!!

Re: excuses for not drinking
your post made me giggle because it reminded me of the great lengths one of my friends made to hide her pregnancy. at our wedding rehearsal dinner she poured a beer out of a bottle and refilled it with iced tea.

Re: excuses for not drinking
Since you drink beer every so often, a dark bottled beer is def. a good idea. They wont know that its full just make sure they dont pour it in a glass for you. And if you get thirsty, order a soda or iced tea with it as well.
You can also make a separate trip to the waiter/waitress on your way to the bathroom and let them know your drink will be Straight seltzer or straight Cranberry, if one of your co-workers decides to order a drink for you w/ Vodka. I'm sure a waitress/waiter will keep your secret and will completely understand!
It can be manuevered. Good luck for next time!

Re: excuses for not drinking
ugh!!!! I just got an email for a ladies night out with just a few girls here at the office. Some of them talk behind your back. I told them one night that I would love to go out with them (they asked me) but this was months ago, and I was drunk.
I hate looking like the party pooper girl from long island who has a long *** commute, and is no fun.
I cannot wait to tell everyone.
Is 9 weeks too early to tell the office? I think it is.
