Excessive blinking

I noticed yesterday that my 2 year old son is blinking a lot. Like he is voluntary doing it. Sometimes he squeezes themshut. Does anyone know why he would ssuddenly do this?

Re: Excessive blinking

If you've checked that nothing is bothering his eyes, it sounds like it is probably a tic he has developed. It's very common for toddlers to go through phases of tics. Our son started (also with excessive blinking, followed by various others) right around age 3. We brought it up to the doctor at his well visit, and she said to note each tic, and how long he does it for, and if they don't fade after while, or if they get worse, she'd recommend seeing a neurologist just to rule anything out. But she stressed how common it is for toddlers to go through that. My husband also has mild Tourette's Syndrome, which causes him to tic, which is the main reason we brought it up to the ped. Now, a little over a year later, he still has occasional phases of tics but they come and go and aredefinitely less frequent and not as long-lasting.

Re: Excessive blinking

My nephew started doing this last year. They brought him to the eye dr and it was allergies. He'd never done it before, it came out of nowhere

Excessive blinking

I would think allergies or he might need glasses. I would go to a pediatric ophthalmologist

Re: Excessive blinking

I just went through this with my 3 year old.
I took him to the ped and she had us try eye drops for allergies first.
That didn't work so she had us see an ophthalmologist. All checked out good. He said it is very common in toddlers and usually goes away on its own
A few weeks later he has stopped completely.

My one DC did this. The ped said it was probably just a phase bc he noticed the sensation and "look" it gives when they do it. She was right and he stopped.
