escessive/strong blinking in a toddler
Anyone deal with this? My DS blinks alot and forcefully like something is bothering his eyes.
The ped had us try allergy eye drops and it didn't help.
Next step is an opthamolgist
The dr mentioned that it could be a tic of some sort of course I am a little concerned.
please share any advice/information you may have

Re: escessive/strong blinking in a toddler
My nephew has a tic that causes him to blink excessively. He didn't develop it until he was older though (I think around 5 years old or so). He is 8 years old now. In his particular case it has been diagnosed a symptom/form of Tourettes. It really seems to get bad when he is excited or nervous. When he is focused on something like watching a movie or using an iPad, he barely does it though. Right now they are just monitoring him to see if he develops any more tics but for now, it's actually gotten better as he's gotten older.

Thank you for the info...DS seems to be the opposite if he is concentrating on the ipad or tv it is worse.

That is excatly what my dd was doing - worse when using the ipad or watching tv. I took her to Dr. Roberts in port jeff - Long Island Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Might definitely be an issue with his vision then.

I was amazed at how little she could see When they are little they dont even know better! They gave her a eye exam by showing pictures (bear, hand, car) and at first I thought she was just being difficult but then we realized she really couldnt see it.

Re: escessive/strong blinking in a toddler
My nephew (7) & my DH both have blinking tics.
The good news is that you can't really notice unless you watch them carefully.
Both are perfectly smart, athletic & normal otherwise. My nephew's mom didn't notice DH had the blinking tic until she told me about her son...
