Elevated lead levels question

My friends children were recently tested for lead as part of whatever routine testing her ped does and their levels came back slightly elevated. It's nothing that the ped is concerned with but she is curious as to what could be the cause. Outside of lead paint, what else could cause the elevation in levels? Could it be toys? Anything else? TIA

Re: Elevated lead levels question

Find out if your friend's children got the blood taken from their finger or from a vein in their arm. My DD's levels came back slightly elevated when they took it from her finger (I think it was 5.3 or something?) and then the pediatrician said we should come back and get it taken from a vein in her arm b/c it sometimes comes back elevated from the finger. We got those results back and her number was less than 1! So, if it was taken from their finger, she should see if it could be taken again from their arm.

Re: Elevated lead levels question

It could be toys, blinds, a backyard deck, a playground.

I know the ped isnt concerned but I'd be on a mission to find the source. I had a friend who moved into a house in Maine who had to evacuate her house & have everything tested.

Our other friend tested his blinds using a marker from Home Depot. They had a program to bring back the blinds with the lead. He carried them into the store. He was stunned when the guy at Home Depot put on gloves & a mask, picked up the blinds he was previously carrying barehanded & brought them in the back.

It's not something I'd be comfortable with.
