Eggplant shortage?!?!
Anyone know if there is an eggplant shortage? I went out this morning to get some eggplant to bread and fry today for this weeks dinner, and 2 big grocery stores had none out at all, and tehn I went to another store that the food is real cheap in (Price Right) and it rang up for 2.99 a pound, my eggplant was costing 4.98. So, no eggplant for me this week! What the heck?! I reme ber getting it for like 79 cents or 99 cents a pound...
bring on the warm weather & farm stands!!!

I think there is...that and peppers. I've been finding alot of the peppers in the supermarkets lately to be gross. I think I saw a sign last week or two weeks ago that there were shortages of certain produce.

The pizza place up the street from us had a sign up Friday that said due to the high cost of eggplant, they didn't have any.

I love it too! There is a frozen brand called Dominicks or Dominix, and it is not bad for frozen breaded eggplant, but i don't like the skin on it, and it has it...so i don't buy it anymore. When I used to get it a a few years ago, it was skinless.
I saw Trader joe's has some frozen eggplant cutlets, i wonder if theirs has skin....hmmm...

I read that due to freezing and bad weather across parts of the U.S. and Mexico, a bunch of different vegetable harvests have been ruined, including eggplant, cucumbers and even tomatoes! The prices may go down soon once crops from other countries start to make their way here.

i havent seen eggplant in a couple of weeks...but sat i bought a sicilian eggplant (it looks like a small pumpkin but a light purple color). never heard of it or made it before, but i was hoping its like regular eggplant?!

I saw that my Stop & Shop had eggplant today...to the tune of 3.99 a pound! I did see a sign there is a shortage due to bad weather for tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers...

There is a shortage...It is really expensive right now even wholesale. My DH works in the produce business. Today eggplant is $65 a box.
