dumb temping question
OK so even though I'm in the 2ww, I'm already looking to next month (wow I'm a debbie downer!)...
I decided to start temping, but I'm clueless....
overall the idea behind it is that your temp goes UP? or goes DOWN? when you O???
Does it stay around one temp until you O & then return to that temp after you O? or is it different for everyone?

Yes, as Ang said.
You are looking for a bi-phasic pattern. temping helps confirm O occurred after the fact.

Generally it'll drop a day or so, or on the day of, your next period.

Sometimes mine doesn't come down until my 2nd day of AF. I get some spotting though so that might be why. Your temps will also be kind of wacky during AF so don't worry about them too much. You will then notice a series of low temps until you O. There will then be a clear rise.

It comes back down gradually leading towards AF.
If it stays high that is a VERY good sign!

also, how much do temps vary from AF to O'ing? are we talking a couple of degrees or 1/10th of degrees? is it a dramatic difference?
I started taking my temp this morning just bc i'm curious but when does it count for me to start temping? first day of AF this month?

It all kind of "counts." One individual temp doesn't mean much; it's the pattern that matters. Make sure you have a basal body thermometer with a digital screen.
Take your temp the minute you wake up.Make sure you're taking your temp at the same time every day (weekends, too!!) Do not get up to pee, or even move much, before taking your temp.
eta: My pre-O temps were all (generally) in the 97-degree range, and post-O were all 98 or higher. They went up at least .5 degrees the day after O. My temps dipped at least .5 degrees at 10-12 dpo if AF was on the way. They stayed high through 14dpo the month I got my BFP. (I stopped temping after that!)
