Dumb Pet Peeve

Okay so being pregnant, I've definitely been more irritable and moody. I find that stupid things set me off... So here goes. Tell me if this one bothers you too or if I'm being a giant pain in the a$$!!!

So it REALLY annoys me when people say they are X number of months pregnant each four weeks. For example. 12 weeks = three months, 16 weeks = four months, 24 weeks = six months, 32 weeks = eight months... So, what, when you are 40 weeks you consider yourself ten months pregnant?! In reality, 40 weeks is nine months and one week. Do the math, people!!! Lol am I insane for getting annoyed by this?!

ETA: I didn't say I have a problem with saying you're X number of months pregnant lol... I said that I hate it when people say they're that number of months pregnant prematurely. Like they say Oh I reached 28 weeks today so I'm 7 months. But you're not seven months yet, you're MAYBE six and a half!!! I know... I'm crazy but it drives me nuts!

Idk, next Friday I'm 32 weeks and I just don't see myself as being eight months because that would mean I'm supposed to be giving birth shortly thereafter!!

Anytime someone asks me how far along I am and then I say X number of weeks, they look at me like I have two heads. So I usually just round off to the nearest month.

The whole counting the first couple of weeks in the 40 weeks before you conceive really throws some people off!

Right, and some people are set in their old ways and go by months. Until i started TTC i had no idea it should be counted by weeks.

I find that usually people get confused by weeks, so I have been rounding it by month. I'm 32 weeks and so far I have been saying "I have 8 weeks to go" because 8 months really sounds like I'm due any day!

I usually go by the number of weeks but some people look really confused when they ask how far along I am and I say however many weeks so I usually just round off the the nearest month and say I'm about however many month and I'll just tell them when I'm due. I figure they can do the math if they're that interested in knowing exactly how many months I am.

HAHAHAHA... i do the exact same thing. I do think its silly to be annoyed by this BUT if there is any time in life where a woman gets the red carpet to be silly, hormonal, "crazy" or whatever now is it.

Re: Dumb Pet Peeve

I usually go by weeks (I guess when I go to dr they always go by weeks so I am used to it and I am HR so I go so often) so when someone asks how far along I am I don't go by months and just say my due date or say I am 36 weeks they look at me like I am nutty

your pet peeve is Chat Icon though.

I understand but I don't care, I do the same thing though. I don't have time to do the math, I estimate when people ask how far along I am. No one is going to test me on it.

I totally get it, but the funny part is I've been told by non pregnant people and childless people that counting in weeks is annoying. I actually got rudely told to stop once by someone when I said my daughter was 12 weeks. They said, "you mean 3 months, right? Why do you people always make us do the math." I can say that it slightly bugs me when you do months and the kids are over 2, like 36 months or 32 months, etc.

Re: Dumb Pet Peeve

Actually, I think that it's confusing because the day after your first "month" ends, you are in you second month and therefore 2 months along.

I think you are technically pregnant for 10 months (40 weeks) before that you are still in your 9th month of pregnancy. BUT I find the whole thing really confusing which is why I usually say how many months and follow it with I'm due XX date.

I was actually doing this for awhile, until DH corrected me. But I still feel that rounding up to months sounds so much better than weeks!

You'll never have to worry about me doing that. I'm too bad at math to figure out how many months I am. I'm 19 weeks. Whatever that adds up to in months- so be it.

Dumb Pet Peeve

Hahahah again people, I don't care if you say you are "X" number of months. I tell people I'm over 7 months right now because I am 31 weeks pregnant tomorrow. But when I reach 32 weeks, that doesn't mean I'm 8 months, it means I'm still between 7 and 8. I just don't like it when people go to the next month each four weeks because there are more than four weeks in a month. Otherwise we would all be 10 months pregnant by the end! Here's how I see it... If I am due August 31st, 40 weeks before that was November 25th. So technically I'm considered pregnant from November 25th until August 31st, which is 9 months, 1 week... Not 10 months. This is because months are longer than four weeks!!!

But according to your logic, if you are pregnant November 25th (november being your first month) you would be 2 months pregnant on December 1st - a few days later since you are now in your second month Chat Icon

The whole thing is just very confusing - especially since so many people say it differently!
