DS is back home after the surgery!!!!!!!!!
Everything went very well and on schedule. He was the first surgery of the day and he didn't get cranky for a bottle beforehand. He played in the pre-surgery playroom with another boy and he seemed oblivious.
We hit one snag before surgery, and one snag after. The anesthesiologist came in to discuss the plan and then told us about a shot he could get to manage pain as soon as the surgery was over. Sounded harmless. Then she explained it was like an epidural and showed where it would go into his back. I LOST IT!!!!!!!! (For those that don't know, I had a terrible outcome from my spinal during childbirth and am still recovering.) So much for remaining calm. DH calmed me and we discussed our options. We decided against that shot.
After his surgery we went into the recovery room and DS was upset and confused. He fell asleep in my arms and the nurse took out his fot IV. DH started getting our stuff together when he said I had blood on my pants. I figured it was a drop or two from the IV. He then lifted DS's foot and blood was coming out of it. He said to the nurse 'Is this normal?' and she got the panic look and said 'Oh my God!' 
Luckily, she stopped the bleeding fairly quickly.  But then they seemed to kick us out so quick. He wasn't even fully dressed when a guy came along and said 'Okay, you can follow me outside.' That part we were not happy about.
Right now DS is sleeping in his crib. Thank you all for your prayers and support during all of this.

Kelly I'm glad that was quick and you're all home now. You had every right to go ballistic and freak about that shot. I'm glad DH was with you to calm you down.
I'm glad overall it went well.

Talk about traumatic! I'm glad DS is okay but I am sorry that you all had to go through this experience.

I am so glad that everything went well! I was thinking of you guys this morning while we were at the hospital too bc DH had to have a procedure.
I hope he's feeling 100% really soon!!!
