DS hates tummy time....Need help

DS HATES tummy time! I bought him one of those tummy mats & put him on it daily but he only lasts about 5 minutes. We know how crucial it is for him to do tummy time, so can anyone give me some suggestions to get DS to like it more????

My DD hated it as well. I just did it for little tiny bits at a time and picked her up before she went ballistic. Eventually, being on her tummy became more fun for her.

What worked well for us in her early tummy time days was having her lay on her belly on my chest.

DD used to hate it as well. we got a different mat w/ a pillow and that's helped a lot. she still only lasts about 7 minutes at the most, but when you first put her down, she's happy. it also came with a mirror, and she likes to look at herself so that helps too. granted, she doesn't love tummy time, but she's a lot more tolerant, only happy for the first minute. even with the limited time she's on her tummy each day, she now has decent control of her neck, and does lift herself up pretty high. it kind of happened overnight. just keep trying and eventually they get used to being on their belly and therefore less frustrated.

5 minutes at a time is fine at the beginning. And most kids hate tummy time...so no need to worry!
If you have a boppy, I know a lot of kids don't mind having tummy time on that so they're a little elevated.

What I find works best for right now is putting DD on my chest and she hears the sound of my voice and looks towards it.

Jackie hates it too. What I've started to do is put her on the boppy, or put her in her crib, sit on the floor and talk to her. That way, I'm level with her head, and she can try to turn to find my voice.

thanks ladies funny thing is that DS has wondeful neck control....we always do the tummy time on either DH or my chest at night & he likes that...

since we have EI services doing screenings every 2 months, the next time they come they want DS to push himself up to a 45 degree angle frome laying flat on his belly

I just wanted to say DS hated tummy time too when he was younger! He also only lasted about 5 minutes on and off. As long as you put him on his tummy a little bit here and there, don't worry if it's only 5-10 minutes total each day. Not every baby loves it, do what you can, he will still dvelop all his muscle strength through play, etc. My DS went from hating tummy time to sitting unsupported at 5 months, crawling at 6 months and now at 9 months we laugh at how he couldn't last 5 minutes andon his tummy...

DD hated it too until this week. DH friends mom made her an amazing quilt with tons of color and patterns. I put her on this and she will last about 10 minutes. I think they get tired quick holding those heavy little heads up. . .lol

Do you put a toy or soft book in front of him? lay of the floor flat on your stomach and look in his face..My kids hated it too. They did it in the boppy and thats about it? We would actually let them nap in the boppy in front of us. My kids reached all their developmental milestones around the "right" time

Ds used to tolerate it for only about 5 minutes at at time until he could hold his head up pretty high and look around easily. I used to prop him up over the boppy when he was younger because he seemed to like it better. My Dr. said this was fine and it works the same muscles as being on the floor does. I would do a few 5 minute "sessions" everyday and little by little he could tolerate longer periods of time.

My DS hates it too He sometimes will reach out for toys and all and that lasts maybe 5 minutes...then he starts whining...and he does know how to roll from belly to back but now doesn't even want to do that....

My best advice would be to NOT put him directly on his belly right away. First start him on his side for a few minutes and gradually roll him onto his belly and then to the other side. Ease him into it.
