Dry well?

Has anyone ever had them installed in their backyard for drainage?

We are having issues on the left side of our house - it is like a swamp when we have a lot of rain. It is partially due to the slope of the yard in that area, partially to saturation, partially to how the downspouts are.

Our sprinkler/landscapper (who is also a fam friend) suggested putting in two dry wells that look something like this - below ground.

Any experience with this? Any other solutions?

eta - can't get pic to post

Re: Dry well?

We had one installed in our backyard last year for the same reason. And our basement was getting flooded with heavy rain. We have 2 gutters that go underground and drain into it, plus we have 2 basement window wells at the back of the house with drain pipes that lead into it. We also had the entire yard pitched away from the house and into the drain. It's not a noticable slope, but you can tell it's pitched. We have not had any water issues in our basement ever since. Now that our grass is growing in full, you can barely see the grate in the lawn, it's only about a 6-8 inch diameter.

thanks for your response!! I am so glad it helped! We have no water in our basement but with a toddler, it is near impossible to keep him out of the mud and we want to be able to use that part of the yard!

Do you mind if I ask what you paid to have it done? We were quoted 1400 for two wells installed?

Re: Dry well?

That's a really good quote. We had ours done as part of a major backyard overhaul, so I'm not 100% sure of the breakdown, but I think it was an add'l $1,200 for the drywell. And we only had one installed.

HTH!

Re: Dry well?

We had the same problem and then it started draining in the basement. My husband put one in and it's fine. Thing is it only works in that area so if you have areas that are far in distance you may need more than 1.
