Dr's Office Vent *** UPDATE***

So, I've been experiencing some spotting since last Wednesday (no cramping except late Tuesday night, which I attributed to gas/constipation, as the moment I was able to go, it went away). I immediately called my dr on Wednesday morning and they said it might not be what I think, and sent me for bloodwork. So I went for the bloodwork last Wednesday and Friday (and of course because I am impatient, took more HPT, and all came back pregnant). By Friday, the spotting had reduced to almost nil, except that both Saturday and Sunday I was more active and it got heavier and more constant (still no pain/cramping). Nothing to fill a bad or liner, but enough to get me more worried. I called my dr's office this morning about 30 times before they actually took their phones off their answering machine. The woman I spoke with said that they didn't have any of my blood work yet, but that she would make sure they get it and get back to me. But, on top of that, she kept asking me if I was pregnant, "The tests came back pregnant?"... Well no $#!T, of course they came back pregnant... Had they NOT come back pregnant, I would never have thought to even call you, I would have just assumed that I was getting my period, just a little late. Come on lady, first have a little compassion as I am OBVIOUSLY freaking out, and second, let's use a little common sense!!!!!!!

**************************************

Looks like it didn't work out... Quant levels dropped from Wednesday to Friday. They want to check them again on Thursday or Friday of this week to make sure they get back into the negatives. If anyone else has been through this, can you explain to me if I'll actually get a full period, or if the spotting is all I'll get?? The woman at the office wasn't really clear about it.

Thank you all for your advice & support!! Hope to see you back here soon!

So sorry that happened...sometimes those receptionists are a bit abrupt. Hang in there!

It just sucks, so bad, I am a slightly anxious person to begin with and with the hormones, I'm going out of my mind... and DH, as amazing as he is, is trying to stay calm and keep me calm, and I just feel like he's not listening to me or taking me seriously.

Sorry, it is very frustrating. Receptionists can really make or break a doctors office.

Re: Dr's Office Vent

Sounds like my doctors office. It's automated for the first minute or so and then, more times then not, I have to leave a message for someone to call me back.

When in doubt, use the emergecy line. They'll get back to you faster. I too get anxiety and I know if I were in your position, and no one called me back, I'd either a) go to their office unannounced or b) go straight to the hospital.

How far along are you? Personally if I had any bleeding I would request a sono just to be sure. I am sorry you have to go through this frustration. I went through something similar with my old doctor's office. I was spotting and it was brown and very light so they kept telling me it was "old blood" and I shouldn't worry. But when I went for the sono I was measuring 2 weeks behind and ultimately miscarried. But during that time I had a million questions and concerns and no one was returning my phone calls. I was getting really upset about it. It sucks when you're going through something like that and you aren't really sure what's going on. The doctor and staff should really be doing everything in their power to get you answers. I hope everything turns out ok and I dont mean to freak you out with my story. There is a good chance that everything is just fine. I have a friend that spotted through her entire first trimester and has a perfectlu healthy baby now! The pregnancy tests are still going to be positive either way as long as there is still HCG. So I would stop spending money on them for now and just keep on bugging the doctor's office until they get back to you! Hope that everything works out for you!

That's what I figured, I took the last one on Thursday night, and I just gave up after that, figuring that even if I was miscarrying, since the HPT's were so sensitive, they'd pick up even the slightest bit of hormone in me. I am actually an office manager for a neurology practice, and have been in the field for about 10 years now, and it takes all my strength not to beat them down for how they are treating me. Up until now, I've had no issues... but now, I'm seriously beginning to think about changing docs!

I would absolutely consider switching practices based on how they are treating you. I did and it was the best decision I ever made!

Do you mind telling me where you switched to?

I hate to put it this way, but I feel like the waiting game is making it so much worse. When I first noticed the bleeding, I was sad and cried a little, but then I was like, OK, if it's over, it's over we can try again in 2 months (I wanted to give 2 months). But with all this maybe maybe not crap, I'm going crazy. If it's done, I just want it done - I can't go another week + with this spotting BS. And if it's not, I want to know what I can do to reduce the spotting (other than bed rest, since I need to work).

I was thinking the same thing. Is this a normal occurrence? I have loved doctors before but HATED staff and have switched on that reason alone. When you are pregnant you are going to want answers faster then what they seem to be providing you with. I switched OBs and found an office I LOVE!!!! I had some cramping the other day at 31 weeks and the nurse practitioner was busy and couldn't take my call. The office staff took ALL my information and called me back 5 minutes later and told me that she was still on the phone but she was going to interrupt a doctor so I could get my answer. Made me SO much happier knowing that I always get an answer and they are the one thing during this pregnancy that hasn't stressed me out!

Ahhhh isn't that the question. I liked what I've heard about Winthrop, and I used to work for South Nassau and loved their L&D. I'm not familiar at all with LIJ - especially Plainview, since I live in Massapequa (I'm not familiar with any of those hospitals near me).

I had a chemical in September and the staff at my practice (Suffolk OBGYN) were less than helpful and compassionate. I left there and am now using the Stony Brook Midwives and will deliver at Stony Brook. Absolutely love them and wish I'd known about them sooner.

I don't have any recs for Nassau but I hope you find a practice you love, that is most important. You have no obligation to say with them if they are not treating right. Making you wait without any answers or giving you any insight is cruel.

Yes I completely agree! The maybe/maybe not will drive you crazy. What doctor are you seeing now?

my SIL delivered at Northshore Plainview and was very happy there. I will be delivering at NS Manhasset and based on my experience & hospital stay there last year I was very happy with the hospital staff (except for one horrible nurse, but I will just hope I don't see her again lol). Definitely switch doctors if your gut is telling you this is how they operate it will only get worse as you go along! I switched at 21 weeks and feel much better now that I did.

... in Massapequa. She is very nice, and I like her. I had actually gone to see her earlier in the week that I found out I was pregnant for a "preconception" visit to ask a ton of questions, and she was really patient and calm. But I had no idea that I was preggo at the time, since it was before I was due for my period and had what I'm now guessing was implantation spotting (which I mistook as the beginning of my period). I have no close friends that are married, let alone pregnant - and those friends that are, live farther east than I'd be willing to travel for a doctor....

I used to live in massapequa but not since getting pregnant, so I dont really have any recommendations for that area... but I'm sure if you ask around or search old posts you can find some.

I called the office 3 hours ago... they didn't have the results yet, but were going to call and try to get them ASAP... at what point is it still too soon to call back and I look like a crazy person and at what point is it OK to all again? LOL.. you'd think being an office manager for a physicians' office I would be able to answer these questions myself (yes - it's ALWAYS too early to call back, lol).

If the blood test was to test hormone levels then they should have had them back same day.

My Dr is in Massapequa one day a week and in West Islip the others. he delivers at Plainview and Good Sam. So you'd have to be ok with going to Good Sam because you don't get to choose if he happens to be at one when you go into labor.

I switched to him at 20 weeks so I know what its like to be at a practice and not be happy.

FM me if you want his name. Other girls on here go to him. I had complications during my pregnancy and he was wonderful.

I am sorry you are going through this, and at the same time I understand your frustration. I switched OB practices at 10 weeks due to being told wrong information by one of the nurses there. It was the best decision ever. The OB I am currently using is in Bellmore and have been extremely happy with the level of care received.

OK, seriously, I called back around 2 (4+ hours after I first called).... and they were "just talking about me". They were "looking in the office to make sure the results hadn't come in yet" and were about to call Quest for the reports... Oh really? I thought you were doing that 4 hours ago when I first spoke with you and you didn't see the results. I very calmly said that I am going out of my mind, I am at work and can't concentrate, that I'm having trouble sleeping and I need to know what's going on and I need to know today. I said if I need to go for a sono I want to go today, and that if the results show that it's not progressing well, that I am having a MC then I want to know NOW so that (a) if I need a D&C I can get one and (b) I can have a drink tonight!

Aww I am so so sorry. I totally know what you are going through because that was me last July/August. This is the worst part! Good for you for putting your foot down!! Try to do whatever you can to distract yourself and keep your mind off of it. I know that's easier said than done. I watched a lot of TV/movies to avoid thinking about it and that helped pass the time. keep us updated. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
