Honestly I am going to vomit if I have to hear another right winger go on and on about the DOW. #1 - I don't remember a damn peep from anyone on the right when Obama was president and the DOW grew tremendously. Actually all I heard was gloom and doom about how the economy was horrible #2 - The reason the DOW is jumping now under Trump is because he pretty much has said he will reduce regulations 75% to help business. Wall Street LOVES business. They don't care about pesky things like workers or the environment, just money, money, money, money, money. So YEY, Wall Street and Donald and all his rich cronies (and billionaire cabinet) will all get even richer on the backs of the people of America. Regulations are so restrictive though, right? Clean air, clean water, food safety, safe working conditions, fair treatment of workers - all totally overrated if they get in the way of a quick and easy buck (sarcasm in case it is missed).

First of all, I explained my statement above. Second of all I AM NOT AMERICAN. I'm Canadian, living here due to family circumstances. I pay taxes like everyone else, and trust me if I could pick up and move home today I would.



Please do then. And honestly, if you aren't a citizen, then what business do you have discussing politics within the states? (FYI- I used to tell my Cuban born mother the same when she wasn't a citizen. Told her she had no right to b*tch and to become a citizen- she later did.)



Are you serious with this comment? It's her business because it affects her and her family!

If you think that the only people who are affected by Wall Street are wealthy people then you clearly know nothing about the finance industry. The largest investors are pension systems, university endowments, and things of that nature. The performance of the stock market affects almost everyone wether directly or indirectly.

Yes.

If ONE statistic impresses righter wingers that much, then the multiple positive economic indicators under Obama should logically cause those same people to have been strong Clinton supporters because she would have continued much of the same.

And I note the despicable comments made by righties here. Liberals are always accused of being obnoxious, but we've got nothing on some of these posts.

It's honestly kind of obvious that the Dow would rally with a Trump Admin. He's giving the pipeline the go-ahead. His nominated EPA director and contract freeze indicate that he will gut environmental regs, which is good for corps and bad for posterity. He wants to roll back Dodd-Frank, so the banks can go nuts again. His tax plan looks to slash rates on corporations. Obvi stocks are up.

The question is: how much of this wealth will hit the middle and lower classes? The trend since the '08 crash has been that GDP growth has disproportionately gone toward the wealthy, more than previously in history. I, in all honesty, hope this will not continue to be the case, but I have my reservations.

And as much as we all want a strong economy, it's not the only thing going on. It is so in-character for you to totally ignore the other threads that voice legitimate concerns through fact-based arguments about the war he's waging on the press, the threat to civil rights inherent to his SCOTUS nominees, etc. (the list is LONG) and then show up with a b*tch attitude to blatantly antagonize people with this detail. ("How do you like them apples?")

Once upon a time, I liked to engage you because I found you smart, civil, and reasonable even when we didn't agree on ideology. This post? "Meh." Color me unimpressed.

Did I say that only the uber rich are invested? No. I have an investment portfolio myself. I do not bemoan the growth of the market. I bemoan the growth of the market when it is the result of the president saying he is cutting restrictions and regulations that protect the citizens of this country and the environment. I bemoan the growth of the market when it comes as the result of him introducing industry in the form of a wall between us and Mexico that will impact endanged species migration/territories and come out of my pocket.

And I think that you meant that the rich would get richer and that you would see no benefit financially. In fact, you imply that it will be at your financial expense. That to me sounds like it's coming from someone that doesn't really know about the financial industry.

This country is built on the backs of immigrants. It was FOUNDED by immigrants. I enjoy all the same rights, including freedom of expression, as anyone else as I hold a green card. I work in social services and pay taxes. I own a home. I am married to an American who owns a business. I have two kids who were born here. So if telling me to leave and that I have no right to an opinion makes someone a patriot I want no part of it. What happened to welcoming the weary tired and poor. Isn't that supposed to be what makes America great?

Yes, and then I elaborated that when I said "on the backs of the people of America" I was talking about the impact to their lives and the environment because of the reduction in regulations.

Eta: on a side note, it is a pretty established fact that the rich benefit the most from stock market upticks. A quick Google search shows only about half of Americans have any stock market investment. That includes 401Ks and pensions.

Please do then. And honestly, if you aren't a citizen, then what business do you have discussing politics within the states? (FYI- I used to tell my Cuban born mother the same when she wasn't a citizen. Told her she had no right to b*tch and to become a citizen- she later did.)


and you sound cruel, bigoted, and disgusting by suggesting that because I'm not at the end of my legal journey to citizenship I have no right to an opinion.

Since no one else will say I am honestly disgusted that you're speaking this way. You sound like a depraved animal for attacking her like that. Freely dismissing her fears and and telling her to go back to her country is abhorrent. I doubt very much that you have the humility to feel shame in your words or realize how ignorant they are but this really crosses a line.
