I've been getting calls from NY Blood center constantly and I feel bad but something always comes up!
Anyway, after last week's call, I've made a commitment to myself to donate whole blood at a local drive on Monday, then platelets once a week until Christmas (when I plan on getting a tattoo).
There's a huge shortage, so if you can donate, you should really consider it!!
Locate a drive!!!

I use to do it every few months. Than I started being turned away for being anemic. Which is still an issue for me so i can no longer donate.

I pass out from getting blood taken at the doctor's office - I can only imagine what I'd be like if I donated blood. I commend everyone who does it though!

That's funny I just did yesterday! The university I'm associated with has a website and when you register they not only tell you where the blood drives are but e-mail you a reminder when you are eligible to donate again.

I used to when the company I worked for had blood drives. Since I don't work for the company anymore I kind of forget. I know I should....and I always say I should, but just don't.

I used to. If I was allowed, I would do it regularly. If they ever change the rules so that I'm allowed to donate again, I will for sure.
It's really not that bad. A few moments of discomfort to save a life is worth it.

I did religiously every 12 weeks. Until I worked for NY Blood Center and found out it was just a business and all they really cared about was making $$..
Now I'll only donate at hospitals who have their OWN blood banks within the facility because they don't have to purchase the blood. They just have it on hand. (StonyBrook Does this..)

Same here- just losing a few vials makes me woozy to the point that they have to give me soda, cookies, wet rags, turn the AC on full blast- I can't imagine what would happen to me if I lost a pint...

I'd like to, but I have had a few bad experiences that have turned me off. If I could go to a lab to do it, I would, because they never have trouble finding my veins. The blood drive people have problems and have not drawn blood properly.

I donate blood every three months and platelets about once a month.
I haven't done it as much the last year or so because of fertility meds.

I can't, but my mom and DH do all the time. They constantly get calls.
My mom just went in today to donate platelets. She said it took a long time and they take blood out of one arm, remove the platlets and then put the blood back in the other arm. They were able to get alot of platelets so they were very happy

I did in high school. I should really do it again.
Do you know if you can do it if you've had a blood transfusion? I had 2 and FIL donated twice to replenish what I used. Isn't that sweet? He's pretty cool.
ETA - He donated at the hospital where I had my surgery to replenish their supply directly.

I can't. I don't think I weigh enough, and if I do, then it's just barely. I'd pass out having a whole pint of blood taken out.
But I always encourage people to donate!!
