dogs/guests
If you have a dog(s) and you are invited to someones house, do you bring them? Do you ask if it's ok? Has anyone ever told you you CAN'T bring them?
People who do NOT have pets, how have you handled this situation?

Re: dogs/guests
I have a pet. I would never think to bring her to someone's house, especially without asking.
If as a host a guest asked if he/she can bring the pet I would say no.
If a guest showed up with a pet without asking, I would ask them if they brought a cage or carrier with them. If they did, I would tell my guest that the pet would have to remain in it the entire time.
If they showed up with the pet and without a cage/carrier, I would tell them they would have to go.

Re: dogs/guests
No way would I ask to bring a pet to some one else's home under any circumstances. A service dog is an entirely different situation, and must be accommodated. I grew up with a dog. We would pay a neighbor to let the dog out if we knew we would be gone for a full day. If it was over night we paid for the dog to go to doggy hotel. My pet, my responsibility.

Re: dogs/guests
I have two giant dogs so I'd never bring them anywhere without asking- not even one of them.
But even if I had a small dog, I would never bring them without asking and even if they said okay, I'd bring a carrier.
ETA: I wouldn't really ask to bring my dog over anyway unless there was a reason I needed to.

Re: dogs/guests
We don't have pets, but many of our friends/family do and we have never been asked if someone could bring their pet. DH would be livid. He is not an animal person (he thinks they are dirty) and would not be happy with an animal in our house.
I only had cats growing up, but we never brought them to anyone else's house.

Re: dogs/guests
I wouldn't think of bringing my dog when visiting someone. We bring her to my mom's, but that's because she specifically asks us to bring her. I would hope nobody would bring a dog to our house uninvited. You never know how two dogs are going to interact with each other, especially if the home dog feels like the visiting dog is intruding on their turf.

Re: dogs/guests
I have many friends with allergies. I also have a large dog. The only place we have ever brought him is my mom or my mother in laws house if we are going to be there all day.. like a holiday.
I wouldn't care if someone brought a pet here. My best friend used to live walking distance from me and come over with her dog all the time but obviously she knows we are dog friendly and she was already out walking her dog.

Re: dogs/guests
NOOOOOO. Dogs are NOT humans, they should stay home.
I have a dog and I LOVE her to death however, I would NEVER ask to bring her to someone's home, I don't think it's appropriate to put someone on the spot and ask that of them. I also don't want the stress of her in someone else's house.
On the flip side, it's been asked of me and I HATE it, although I have a dog myself she really doesn't like having other dogs around. Her breed isn't big on noise and commotion so even when we have people over, she usually goes off on her on in a quiet room to relax, another dog around would drive her crazy. I also don't want to deal with someone else's dog in my house, between my own dog and the kids it's just added stress and chaos for me. No thanks.
I might not be the popular answer but I feel like people should leave their pets at home. They will survive a few hours without you.

No one has ever asked but I'd have to say no as it would cause both my cats to have a nervous break down.

Re: dogs/guests
No i would never bring my dog anwyehre with me. My do is an asshole and will pee every where but either way I would never just bring a pet with me somewhere.
My dad did this and it was so annoying for my mom. When he had a work dog he had to bring him where ever went for vacation because the dog only ate when he worked (he would work with him at home ) but he would leave him home for the day.

We don't have pets & I would not be happy if someone brought theirs to my house. Heck, I barely even want other kids in my house.

Re: dogs/guests
i live in a 650 sq foot 1 bedroom apt. and i was asked if one of our guests could bring their dog over for xmas dinner. dog is like 40 lbs and doesnt sit still. dogs arent allowed where I live but Im afraid when we buy a home where we will have a ton of space I cant use the excuse "dogs arent allowed". That dog SHEDS!!!! i always wear black and im covered in white dog hair within minutes when im over the owners home.
I just dont want to sound like a b!tch when I say no in the future. The thought of having dogs on my furniture is giving me so much anxiety. Even if its in the summer during bbqs, the dogs will sh!t all over the lawn. they dont walk them. they just open the back door and the go on the lawn. I refuse to step on sh!t bombs in my own yard.

Re: dogs/guests
I don't think you need a reason- I'd just say no, but if they pressed I'd say another guest is allergic or afraid or if it's a BBQ or something you're worried about them getting out.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Since it's DH's family, make him tell them no.. lol Or he can say you are allergic.

If anyone thinks you're a b!tch because you don't want THEIR dog in YOUR house that just makes them a self-entitled a$$hole. Don't even sweat it, you make the decision that's best for you. I would just nicely say, "I'm sorry but we're not comfortable with having other dogs in our home". Leave it at that and if they don't like it, they can stay home. It's SO rude to even think you can just bring your dog anywhere. Grrr. Makes me so irritated.

Just say no, you would prefer not to have to clean up after a dog. Your house, your rules.

I agree. They are ballsy. THEY should be embarrassed that they are putting you in a position to feel bad about saying no. A dog isn't a child- it can stay home for a few hours. It's not like they are leaving it for days on end.

I do not have any pets, I am allergic to pets, if someone asked if they could bring their dog to my house the answer would be no but they are welcome to leave them in the yard, I am sure pet lovers will flame me but its how I feel.
