Does your LO sometimes refuse solids?
I have been very slowly starting DS on solids. I was doing rice cereal for breakfast (starting at 1tsp increasing to 2 tbsp), started peas and then sweet potatoes. He was eating the rice cereal on and off, hated the peas and loved the sweet potatoes. For the past 2 days, the minute the spoon comes by his mouth he closes it so tightly that I can't even squeeze the spoon in. Is this normal?

dd did this in the beginning. now she opens her mouth so wide when she sees the spoon!

dd did this for a month and half. at 7 1/2 months she finally just started opening her mouth. she still gives me a hard time when eating. shes 8 months

DD does that and I switched from Rice to oatmeal to mixed grains. She hates Peas also but I am trying to not give her just fruits so that she will eat the vegis. For the past few days all she will eat is avacado. I guess its just a phase cause she will go on strike a few times and then shes back to the solids. DD is 9 mo

So do I try to give him solids everyday or stop for a couple days? I feel like I'm preparing the cereal and defrosting/heating up the veggies for nothing. I sometimes barely even get a spoonful in his mouth. He even started trying to keep his mouth shut when I give him vitamins too like he's protesting anything in his mouth but his hand

DD does this sometimes, and other times she opens her mouth wide for the spoon. It could be the flavor. I haven't tried peas yet, but I've noticed dd already seems to prefer certain fruits/veggies over others. Also I've noticed I need to offer her the food at just the right time when she's not tired and has an appetite but isnt so hungry that she just wants to nurse and doesn't want to be bothered eating from a spoon.

This is so true. My DD isn't really all that into her food yet, but I just keep offering it to her without forcing it.

what about giving him a toy that is easy to clean or a board book while you are feeding him? I don't remember when I started doing this, but dd is 15 months and now when she eats she flips through board books. At this point its more so she doesn't fight to get out of the seat, but it makes a nice distraction so they don't focus on refusing the food so much.

DD was the same. Once she got the hang of solids, she did great for a while. Then she suddenly wanted nothing to do with them and was even the same about the vitamins which she used to love. I kept trying every day and eventually she came back around. Maybe just prepare a small amount of cereal or oatmeal and if he takes it then you can always make more and quickly defrost some veggies.

i kept trying once a day. maybe i skipped a few days. i then tried feeding her on my lap and while holding her instead of in the high chair. i was at my witts end so i was willing to try anything. she actually started to eat while i was holding her and then we gradually went back to the high chair after a few days. i also broke up little pieces of puffs to give her. figured it was something different other than purees. and she loved it. my ped also suggested giving stage 2's and baby yogurt to break up the texture
