Does your accountant...
give you photocopies of your interest statements, tax interest statements, deduction receipts, etc?
I had to basically pull teeth to get our new accountant to give me a copy...seems fishy.

You should always get your original documents back except for the fed and state copy of your W2 and the tax return. Your accountant SHOULD NOT be keeping them.

My last accountant also kept the originals, but made photocopies for us.
This one kept everything. I demanded that she give me my receipt from the Salvation Army because I had a $2,000 deduction from the donations that I made to them.
But, she still has the bank statements and mortgage statement. I told her to make a copy and that I'd come pick them up...

When my DH brought our stuff to the accountant...he made photocopies for himself and gave DH the originals back.

You're the one that gets audited...not them. That is why you should keep your originals. The IRS prefers them.
BTW...I'm not wishing an audit on you.
