yes and no.....
I just want people to NOT forget what happened. As far as building the full towers up...I can understand the skeptcisim.

Re: Does it bother you
I'm sure there are peple that feel if the towers go up again, it's just another target...the whole" it could happen again" thing, ya know??

I guess i don't think i would necessarily think that they would be in jeopardy specifically

no because I pass by it very frequently and they are ALWAYS doing something in that area. They just recently finished fixing one of the nearby buildings.

Re: Does it bother you
true...it's such a debatable issue.
some people want them up to remind them
others don't because it reminds them

I've debated this in my head for a while. I can't decide what I want. But, the sketches that I've seen of the "proposals" are just plain old UGLY....

Re: Does it bother you
No, I am glad it hasn't been rushed into out of respect for those who died. And if it had been decided to make the whole site a memorial, I wouldn't have been bothered by that (then again, I have not been there in years so I really don't remember how much physical space is involved)
I also think that building something so huge will just serve to make us look arrogant in the eyes of the rest of the world. Like, look at us, we were attacked here so we're making an even bigger target! But that's just my opinion.

I wasn't thinking about building something bigger.... and i don't think that rebuilding is arrogant nor would it be seen as such....not at all...
And what does rebuilding have to do with respect for the dead?

Re: Does it bother you
without some sort of memorial, it would be disrespectful, IMO.
But, I think we should not fear seeming arrogant. Then we are defeated, IMO. I think we should rebuild (something) to show our strength and courage.

I don't disagree with rebuilding, but the fact that they are deliberately trying to build the world's biggest building bothers me. People died, and now it's being used as an opportunity to break a world record.
As for respect for the dead, I just meant that allowing time to pass before anything new is put up gives us all time to heal, though of course many of us will never be over it. It would be disconcerting if something was thrown up a year after it happened. Though logisitically that would be impossible anyway

ahhh....i see what you mean... And i agree...i just would like to see that towers back...not looking for any technological marvels...
I just feel like it is an open wound that i would like to see healed...And until they are back...it will stay and open wound..I guess i feel the healing process will really begin with them being built....but that is just me.

Doesn't bother me. Then again, I think I am still in shock/denial/nourning that I am not facing the reality that it WILL be rebuilt one day.

Re: Does it bother you
I am actually glad. I was concerned that there would be a rush to rebuild and in doing that some safety issues might be overlooked. I think that before anything goes up it should be well thought through and well made. I understand that the nothing can withstand the impact of a jetliner, but there were flaws in the structure that caused the buildings to fall. Research needs to be done to ensure that what goes there is as structurally sound as any building possibly can be.

i thought it was the fuel in the airplanes that caused the towers to fall...and that no structure could have withstood that kind of fire

I am not expert. I just know what I have heard in reports that a difference in the structure might (not definately) have prevented the collapse. As much as I would like to see something where the towers were, I want to make sure that everything is done to make them as safe a possible.

They are ready to be built. Didn't they already start with the cornerstone of the main building?
But they are finalizing the plans. They should have started building already... but the first tower they had designed got scratched recently and is off the drawing board.
They will probably seriously start by 2008 and have it done by 2012.
