My son had torticollis from birth (position in the womb) and I had to push my concerns on my doctor because he was so young but he did give me exercises to stertch his neck. When we went for a well check up the nurse practitioner told us we could stop...bad advice because we landed in PT. But his case was very mild and we did not have to deal with flat head or a helmet because I slept him on his belly.

By 6 months old he was released from PT and today you'd never know he had torticollis.

I would strongly suggest you see a PT for a second opinion. I feel that with the back to sleep campaign there is an increase in torticollis but two schools of thoughts on treatments...some peds feel the kids will grow out of it (yes and no) and some feel that it should be resolved as soon as possible through PT. The longer it goes on the more likely the child will need a helmet and it can interfere with developmental milestones such as crawling and walking.

If you have any questions at all I would be more than happy to answer them. I even created stertching guides that the PT uses (we needed one for daycare and she loved it) so if your DD has right or left torticollis I can share them but suggest you clear it with your PT.
