Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I was pregnant with DS during the winter and felt good. This pregnancy I feel the warmer weather makes me tired more easily and makes me crampy if I dont drink enough water or if I am on my feet too long in the heat. I brought it up to my dr and she said to make sure I stay hydrated.

I feel bad b/c I feel like an old woman. We have plans to take DS to Dutch Wonderland and Thomas the Train in PA this weekend and DH thinks we should cancel b/c he thinks it may be too much. I am only 7 mo. pregnant but we had a busy weekend including a wedding yesterday and I was wiped out after. I felt sore from my back down to my feet and was feel crampy last night. He thinks the walking and the heat may be too much.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I do not have a comparison as this is my first but I was just saying how much I was glad that we're not having a super hot Spring/Summer yet. So it's been pretty good so far.

On your trip, make sure you stay very hydrated and take lots of sit breaks on a bench while DS is on a ride or something. I'm sure it will not be the same fun as being on the rides or at the railing waving but at least you'll have this memory with him before baby comes. Eat healthy foods and snacks and try to avoid salty/sugar concession food as best you can. Chat Icon

No. I think each season has it's challenges (winter = ice, spring = allergies, put regular sinus issues, fall = ok, not fall...i love fall Chat Icon).

For my summer pregnancy, I went from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned train to air conditioned office. Also I found pools are the best thing to alleviate the stress weight gain puts on your body.

I am having a really hard time with the heat and I am not as far along as you. We are planning to go to Sesame in July and my DH thinks we should cancel it.
I still want to go but I am thinking of maybe going back to the hotel for a part of the day and letting DH stay at the park with DS.

There are so many things i want to do with DS this summer and I am having a hard time accepting that i can't do it all.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

So far I am holding my own but we have not had really hot/humid days yet. When we did have our mini-heat wave, I spent as much time indoors in the CAC or in the shade outside (since I love being out).

I am looking forward to lounging in the pool to give my body a chance to not have the stress of the weight. My extreme tiredness is related to my anemia, so no matter what season I would have been pregnant, i would deal.

i have nothing to compare to but i dont see how there's ANY upside to it, except maybe saving money on maternity clothes (less fabric) and maybe less of a chance of slipping on ice.

I wanted to plan a few weekend trips as well...I knew August would be tough being I would be in my last month but never thought I would cr@p out by 7 months Chat Icon

DH and I went to a Mets game the other night and took the train and after the game as we were walking back to the train it took forever b/c I had to go super slow b/c I felt cramping and pelvic pain and pressure which is not good.

I guess part of it is also with a toddler I dont get to rest at all...I am chasing after him and taking him out everyday to keep him busy.

Honestly, with all the stinking rain and over casts, I barely feel like it's summer.

This is the first time I ever have been in my 3rd trimester in the summer. I'm due Sept.
It's not bothering me yet but I'm sure it'll catch up to me when it's hotter and I'm bigger.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

DS was born in February and I agree, it was soooo much easier. I'm sure, besides the fact that it was winter, not having a 3 year old to take care of helped a lot too. Oh, and let's not forget, I am pg with twins this time around!!!

It is hard to get around but I just take it slow. After all, what's the hurry!

I'm six months and we're going to see Thomas this weekend too. DH mentioned cancelling but I said no way. We are getting there on friday and we'll relax by the pool (indoor in case it rains!!). Then we have tickets for the Thomas Train early in the morning on Saturday. Hopefuly before it gets too hot. Then, we'll just play it by ear. DH wants to go to the train museum so we'll see. If the walking is getting to me, we always have the pool at the hotel.

Sunday we are suppose to go to DW. Again, we'll see. There are so many places to sit there and so much shade. They also have the water park so we might do that or I can sit there while DH and DS go on the rides. I don't mind. I just want DS to have fun. The park isn't that big so I should be ok. I'm just going to rest a lot and drink plenty of water. As long as I can sit and rest, I'll be fine. I'm just not going to push myself. If it's too much, I'll stop.

Don't push yourself. You know your limits. It's not the end of the world if you don't go but so long as you are flexible, you can still go and have fun.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I totally agree! I've been in L&D twice in the last 2 weeks with cramping. Be careful to monitor your cramping because for me it was actual contractions. I'm on procardia right now to keep my uterus "calm." Keeping hydrated is the most important thing.

My DS was born in April so I didn't have to deal with the warmer weather with him and it was much easier being pregnant.

I'm really not looking forward to it. We used to go to the beach all the time and it's going to be just too hot for me. Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I can't compare because this is my first, but I've already said to DH that we will have to plan our next one a little better. I find it harder because you see everyone outdoors and having fun, cocktails outside on a nice day, being able to do certain things that the heat is limiting me too. In the winter I tend to hybernate more anyway so it wouldn't bother me as much!

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

We recently went to Lancaster, PA, just a few weeks ago and it was so hot and muggy and we went to Hershey Park for about 6 hours. It was hot but I wore light clothes and drank so much water. I also took random breaks while DH went on rides with my brother and SIL. It wasn't that bad. I am 30 weeks now, so I guess I was about 27 weeks then.

Take it easy!! Have fun if you end up going!!

I'm not a summer person, unless I am at the beach, I am due at the end of August and I am hoping we don't have any crazy heat waves!!!! At least we can keep cool in cute dresses and flip flops!

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

This time around has been much better for me..I am 34 weeks and handling it just fine...but I have no swelling and have been drinking a ton of water which helps.

With my first son, I was 9 months pg in august (due sep 5) and I think the heat affected me a bit more...I remember certain days just staying still inside and not going out all day.

I have to say though...I am thankful both times that my morning sickness occurred in the winter...I think that would have been WAY tougher for me to handle if it had been summer!!

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I'm 19 weeks and just went to Dutch Wonderland and to see Thomas the train this weekend for my nephew. I will tell you, today I feel like I've been hit by a mac truck but I will say it's worth every second to see their little faces light up. I drank so much, it was crazy.

I suggest not going on the monorail in Dutch Wonderland, I literally almost passed out from no air circulation, then proceeded to almost then get sick from it. I felt like an idiot but you have no control over your body. The park isn't that big, is very shaded, lots of seating....

You will be exhausted, I can guarantee that but I'm telling you, to see the smile on my nephews face was worth how I'm feeling today.

Also at Thomas....again...hot, crowded but not big, you sit a lot (two train rides), have DH take DS on some of the activites. The museum was really cool to see, my nephew loved it, lots of seating in there.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

I am 21 weeks and I have had a hard time with the humid weather. On Saturday, I went to a local fair and I couldn't handle the humidity. It was only in the mid 70's but with 100% humidity. I was dizzy and I had to sit all the time. I drank a ton of water and went home and took a nap. Hubby put the ac in our bedroom window a few weeks ago and I have been using it a lot. He is not going to like our electric bill this summer. We are planning a trip down to Baltimore towards the end of July for a fire department expo. The weather is usually very hot. He wants to bring a wheelchair with us so we can do more things. I may take him up on that offer. My Mom says it's payback as she was pregnant with me throughout the summer. I was born in September...

This is my first so I cant compare. I already told DH that the next one will be a winter baby. I have been suffering from the heat, and it's not that hot out.

Re: Does anyone else feel it's harder to be pregnant in the summer?

IMO...no. I always said I would hate being PG in the summer, but so far I'm loving it! I love being outside, I'm out walking a lot at the beach..I'm hanging out at the beach with the kiddies (when the sun's out of course) and I think all that is making me feel really good.

I like being able to wear just a tank and a flowy skirt or a sundress with my flipflops. Bundling up during the winter wasn't all that fun.

I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm actually enjoying being pregnant in the summer. I love just wearing skirts and sundresses everyday and not having to worry about jeans and sweaters. Give it another month and we'll see how I feel when it's really hot!!!

Not to mention that I'm prob the only pregnant person that's never that warm!

That's the 1 plus...being able to wear skirts, sundresses and flip-flops all the time.
