doc appts and missing work

just wondering, what reasoning did you give for missing work for any doc appts you may have had during the first trimester? i don't want to let my job know i am pg until after the first trimester but I have a few appts coming up that i'll have to be late, (for instance, this wednesday i have a sono and earliest they could fit me in was 9am) so not sure how much of the "dentist appt" excuse i can play out.. TIA!

i tried to make everything after work for that reason. I used blood work as an excuse, acupuncture as an excuse, flat tire, car broke down- car appt. I didnt do the nuchal fold testing due to this. Wasnt ready to tell them but the earliest appt was 930. Just couldnt swing it. Good luck with it. Let us know how it goes..

i know its hard to come up with all diff excuses. fortuantely for me my ob is 5 min from my job so I go directly after work and get there by 5:15. it's great because I never had to come up with any excuses...but it was awkward when I wasnt drinking at the holiday party AND our christmas eve party. I think some people are def on to me !

Re: doc appts and missing work

I always tried to make my appointments after work or on days off. But if I had to miss work, I just said I had a doctor's appt. I also told work pretty early- around 7 weeks with both pregnancies (as soon as we had seen the heartbeat and told family and close friends).

Re: doc appts and missing work

Half of my appointments I was able to make at lunch time so I just told my friends at work that i would normally go to lunch with that I was meeting a family member for lunch, but other appointments I would say the chiropractor to get "adjusted".

Re: doc appts and missing work

How many appts did you ladies have in the first trimester? I only had one at 10 weeks. The next one was at 14 weeks and I came out and told everyone already.

Part of choosing a doctor for me was to be sure I could make my appointments after work: both he & his partner have 1 day a week when they see patients to 7PM.

I would not be ABLE to miss days... and in your late third when you need to go every two weeks & then every one week would be impossible.

Thanks ladies- I have been seeing a RE so right now I have been going there for sonos the past few weeks in a row, and they only do them in the morning. I guess I will try to show up there at like 7:30am and hope they take me early.. after this week, I am seeing an OB GYN that is near where I work, so hopefully those appts won't take more than a lunch hour!

I would just say you have a dr appointment. You shouldn't have to explain further, it's personal.

Re: doc appts and missing work

I would say Dr's appts with no further explanation. Or just a range of excuses like someone else said from running late; car trouble; train trouble; alarm didnt go off; had to take a parent to a dr's appt; or not feeling well...

You dont have to explain any further than that. I know I didnt.
