Do your parents know how to use the internet?

Kind of a spinoff from my parents and pictures post.

Do your parents know how to use the internet and have an email address?


My IL's do to both. My dad does to both. My mom, however, is so resistant. My stepdad has the internet and an account, so if I send her something, I have to send it through him. And he's so anal about the internet, that I can't send attachments.

My Dad, Stepmother and Mom all do. My IL's don't even own a computer.

My parents do, and my dad uses the internet all the time for work, etc. My IL's on the other hand, don't even own a computer much less have an email address.

Oh yeah!

My dad uses his for work, but I usually don't send him emails or links or anything. Sometimes pictures from Shutterfly.

My mom is good too, she is a google addict and mainly uses her computer for the internet. When she first got her ipod it was a big of a challenge, but she is good with that too.

My MIL and her girlfriend are pretty good. We use Skype with them and they are pretty web savvy.

My grandmother was a fan of AOL and IM when I went to college, it was great.

Both of my parents can, as their jobs require these skills.

My ILs are retired teachers and can handle basic email, but any other computer skills, from things like cutting and pasting, opening attachments, internet searches, etc. baffle them.

My IL's- not so much. My MIL a little. I don't think my FIL does. He doesn't even have an e-mail address.

My mom is very computer savvy.

My dad is very computer saavy and my mom needs it for work.

My FIL is okay with it, but my MIL has no clue, she never ever uses a computer.

After much coaching, yes.

Still the occassional call to me to ask how to look something up, but they are mostly competent now.

Yes, my parents use the Internet and e-mail

ETA: They also use Microsoft Office. Though they both lack confidence on the computer, they're pretty proficient.

My dad is very proficient- DH's dad does well and calls DH with occasional questions.

Neither of our mothers uses the computer at all.

my dad does. my mom has an e-mail address but i don't think she uses it

Both of my parents use the internet daily. They send email and go to lots of internet sites. My FIL also uses the internet often. MIL does not. She doesn't have an email account and could care less.

I said other b/c my mom has the internet, can do basic stuff, but really has no idea what in the world she is doing....

I sent her a link the other day via e-mail, and for some reason, it wouldnt let her click it. So I told her to copy & paste into the address bar, and let me tell you, after trying to explain for about a half hour on how to do that, I finally gave up and sent her the link thru AIM.

My Dad is great at it, my Mom is getting there (she just recently got the internet at her job, so she plays on it sometimes.)

My MIL only knows how to use AOL - if you give her anything else, she throws her hands up and says she doesn't know what she's doing. My FIL is hopeless. He broke a mouse the first time he touched it. He knows nothing.

My dad taught me! He's very good at all things technical. Mom isn't.

My MIL is ok at the internet and email..FIL not so much.

yes- my Dad has really gotten with in

10 years ago he couldn't answer a call waiting beep

but he learned quick

ETS- that he can't set up his own VM- it's my sister's voice

Mom - yes, and she knows what's she's doing - she had AOL for mail, reads the NY Times online (she lives in SC), shops online, books flights, etc.


I know my dad does not have a home computer but has a work email address (but his job doesn't necessarily require one or the use of a computer from what I would assume). I don't think I've ever received an email from him. (But we also really don't speak).

They are both 64 ...

My parents finally got a computer a couple of years ago. My father checks email and surfs the web, but has no concept that since he has broadband, he doesn't actually need to log onto AOL to use the internet. When he first emailed me, he didn't know to press enter to get to the next line! Apparently, he never learned to type.

My mom has a serious technology phobia. She doesn't know how to use the DVD player! On VERY rare occasion, she will check her email. I'm talking like twice a year. I got an email from her and almost fell off my chair a few weeks ago. If she would just use it regularly, she'd be good at it, but she avoids technology b/c she's intimidated.

My ILs are much more computer saavy, esp. my FIL, although they still have difficulty with that whole not needing AOL to use the internet concept.

They're not that savvy, but can e-mail and search.

My grandfather, when he was alive, used to Instant Messenger me at work!
