Re: do you wash your chicken?
Nope, washing it just spreads more germs around, and any bacteria would get killed in the cooking process. There really is no need to wash any meat.

I just saw recently on one of the cooking shows that you do not need to wash it.

This exactly. I do wear latex powder free gloves (they're super cheap at the grocery store -- like $3 for 50 of them) when I work with chicken though. Got that from Alton Brown.

I read this too. Since chicken is fully cooked, the bacteria gets killled. Meanwhile you created this whole germy mess all over your sinks, counters, etc during the washing process. It really made me rethink the whole washing concept.

Re: do you wash your chicken?
I rinse whole chicken. I rub salt in the cavity and rinse through the bottom until the water runs clear out the neck. I don't generally bother rinsing chicken parts unless it feels odd to me.

This is what I do, except non-latex disposable gloves because of skin irritation.

Re: do you wash your chicken?
The FDA reccomends that you don't wash the chicken b/c it spreads more bacteria to sink and countertops. Its the cooking process not the washing that kills the bacteria. I washed chicken before I read this now I dont

Re: do you wash your chicken?
I always thought it was odd when I saw one of my friends "wash" chicken. I mean how could rinsing it in water do anything to kill bacteria. The only way to do that is to cook it properly.

Re: do you wash your chicken?
I never wash it. As long as you cook it thoroughly, all the bacteria is killed.

I always do and then I sanitze my sink and counters. I don't think I could NOT wash it even though according to these posts and the FDA is spreads more germs around. Plus I feel like I always have to trim it like crazy too!

I fell the same way, I only use a glass cutting board and I sanitze my sink and counters like a crazy person my DH makes fun of me - I feel like I can't not clean raw chicken, and I trim off every bit of grossness.

This is what I do. I clean the counters right afterwards. Also, it helps to thaw the chicken if it's still a little frozen in the middle. I feel like I have to trim a lot of fat off my chicken, too.

I always rinse.. I don't like the slimy chicken juice it sits in. I'm careful not to splash all around the sink though
