Kathy, that's great!!!! How can you beat it - lower mortgage payments, no rental, dead end street, more room... It's a no brainer 
You guys will have fun fixing up the house the way you want it too! I have to say, when I saw the picture of the basement I actually said "oh no!"  I think you should keep that - you know, as a shrine to the way things were 
LOL a "shrine" well, to be honest, with the amount of money and time we're going to have to invest in the rest of the house, the basement will be last to be done!
I am really excited and looking forward to fixing up the house! We decided first thing is getting rid of the horrible siding on the front of the house (its brown and supposed to look like wood...um, it DOESN'T  ) and the same siding on the garage....we'll add shutters and a new door and then move inside and paint, redo the hardwood floors, recarpet the master BR and then start on the kitchen!! Holy cr*p we have so much to do! As some of you know I am a camera FREAK so it will all be documented!! Cross your fingers for us...we still have to sign contracts and get the mortgage and everything else that this will entail!

We're waiting to hear back about some changes we'd like to make in the contract. As soon as we agree on the terms of the contract we will sign and it will be official. Cross your fingers for us!!

Update: my attorney has given our comments to the contract to the other atty and on Monday everything should be finalized and we should be in contract by the beginning of next week!! woo hoo!!
Projected closing date (if all goes well) is 10/31, but since the house is vacant we're going to push it for ASAP and try to get in there within a month.
I already got the c/o's myself from Town Hall in Huntington and I've done a search for any liens on all parties. We're in good shape! As soon as contract is signed we'll order the title report - well, my atty will order it (or maybe I will since I used to do RE closings  )
Hopefully by next week we'll be moving full speed ahead!
