Yup - Almost all of my apt if used Fh parents moved to vegas and we pretty much got all the furniture in the house. When we moved in all we bought was a mattress and a dresser. Once we buy a house I will probably buy new stuff. But this is fine for now.

if i liked it and it was in good condition, i'd take it. we got our vacuum for free.

I took used maternity clothes and they were fantastic---esp for the 1st few months

Absolutely! Clothes, furniture, whatever -- as long as it's in good condition and fits my taste, I'll take it!

I will basically take anything used except socks,underwear bedding and mattresses

There are certain things I will take used and others I will not.

Three used items I would never except, Mattress, couch, and most clothing.

I would but i have very particular tastes so it would have to be something that i would have bought otherwise. I am usually the giver of used items. I have moved around a lot and so i have a lot of things that i still love but just no longer have a place for. I would be upset if any of these things ended up in the trash so I am really happy when a friend or relative agrees to take them.

I guess I am the odd man out. I don't take used things because I am rarely offered anything and if I am, I already have it and don't need it.

It really depends .... I have taken certain used things, but it depends on who is giving it and the condition of it.....

Totally. My entire nursery cost me only the tax on the crib b/c we got a dresser and changing table from a family friend and an armoire from DHs uncle.

Someone mentioned they wouldn't take a used couch. We did, but it was my parents, so it was MY used couch.

My friends and I have all been giving our maternity clothes to each other, it helps SOO much.

I come from a big family, and one that likes to shift furniture around. I have a coffee table from my aunt, a chair/footrest from my parents, an a/c from my sister and a microwave from my other sister.

My husband has a very small family and just does not grasp the concept of sharing!

But we vow to be more discriminating when we get a house. We don't want all mismatched furniture anymore!

sometimes, depending on what it is and who it is from...and if I really like, need/want it...
we were getting rid of our coffee tables- parents were moving, we took their coffee tables because we liked them- a chair that was my grandmother's...then my mom had it refurbished and she gave it to me when we bought our house-I love it...

It depends what it is & who it is from. I don't shop on Ebay or Craislist, but I have taken, dishes, vases, & jewelery from family end tables from an old roomate.

I have to put a stop to a lot of it thogh, my MIL tries to give us every little thing that she doesn't want & our tastes are so different.

Oh yes. All the furniture in my kids' rooms are used pieces other than the crib and the mattresses. I do want to get them specific furniture when they get older so I'd probably end up getting new stuff then unless I saw exactly what I want for sale second hand (or free, even better) Most of my kids' clothes are used - benefits of having the youngest cousins in both families - and I even shop the second hand store for what I buy. I would never take a used mattress and probably never buy a used couch (esp from a stranger) but other stuff that can be cleaned or refinished, definitely.
